To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

RES Software Encryption Options?

So going through RES I noticed that there is software encryption built in. What I'm trying to figure out if any of those options will work with Motorola? I tried to get the des option to work but it seems like neither des-ofb or des-xl work with BK software encryption. Any help or tips?

DES will require hardware encryption and keyloading. The only thing I believe BK could do in software is RC4 (which is what Motorola calls ADP).

The DES in RES is a little misleading I guess. I was hoping it would work with ofb on my Motorola and Kenwood.

DES will work via software in STANDARD, XL and OFB mode. ADP is software loaded as well.

Both are compatible.

Only one you need a keyloader for is AES.

Weird.... I tired to use the same des code from my kvl and put it into RES with no luck.

I figured it out I was an idiot and forgot to make sure both keys had matching hex IDs.

I tried that as now all I get is keyfail” and it won’t even decode DES even with the right key.
I’m getting the same results. Did you ever get DES to work on the new firmware? All keys show present in RES from reading radio. AES and ADP work fine but DES shows key fail after upgrading.

Res is bugging on the bkr9000 you can read their release notes. Honestly I'm sick and tired of BK releasing updates each time to fix a bug they haven't vetted.
