The Richfield city council voted to not purchase a software upgrade required to continue operating there police and fire dispatch center. Prior to the vote bids for dispatch service were receive from Bloomington, Edina and Hennepin County. All three bids have a cost for the transition to the new dispatch center, Bloomington and Edina have yearly charges, Hennepin County does not have a yearly fee. Pending background checks, Hennepin county would offer to hire all current Richfield dispatch staff, Bloomington would hire 7, and Edina would not hire any of them, Edina increased dispatch staff when they added Golden Valley who will be moving to Hennepin County dispatch.

Hennepin County's new 9-1-1/Emergency Communications Center will be operational in late 2014. They will have capacity to do the entire county, including those cities that still self-dispatch. The politics are fierce, but the reality is that the software and hardware costs are too great for individual cities to afford. They are already paying county taxes and have to decide if local dispatch is worth the extra cost. The county already runs the infrastructure for the ARMER TRS Hennepin sub-system, which is used by all agencies in the county.

This is on the city council Agenda for tonight.
The staff report is putting Edina as the front runner, with working relationships between the departments and timing as strong reasons. Hennepin comes in at a no cost option for dispatch service, but is looking at 4th Quarter 2014 for transition vs Edina 1/1/2014 or earlier if needed, Hennepin has stated on an Emergency Basis they could transition sooner with a 60 to 90 day time frame.

Last I heard police would move to the Edina Main, but fire is staying on there current main, so if that is how it ends up I wound not expect to see any return of vhf.
Edina uses vhf for oncall paging, I am not sure how Richfield is set up for callbacks for additional staffing.

Richfield police are now being dispatched on Edina Main as 2500 units.
So now it is
100 Units Edina Police
200 Units Edina CSOs
2500 Richfield Police
3500 Golden Valley Police

The Radio Reference database still lists Golden Valley with St Louis Park but the above discussion would suggest that GV is with Edina now?

Does anyone in the Twin Cities have a definitive idea as to who is now dispatching PD and FD on the P25 system for:

St Louis Park
Golden Valley
Richfield
Edina

Thanks!

Edina - dispatched by Edina
Golden Valley- dispatched by Edina
Richfield - dispatched by Edina
St. Louis Park - dispatched by St. Louis Park.

The database contains user submitted information so it is only as good as what gets submitted. The Twin Cities database is not current in many aspects. Some people, myself included, no longer submit updates, I don't because confirmed active entries of mine were replaced by incorrect information multiple times.

Well I went back through the submissions to 2005 when I started as a DB adm. and I couldn't see where info was changed back and forth... Maybe we could just move on and try to make the Metro area DB info correct from now on... THANX !
