rigging our scanners

1) Smash the current device with a sledgehammer
2) Buy a device that DOES have what you wanted (or devices, in this case)

Maybe you think you can 'add' a scanner to your TV? No, sorry, it wasn't built to be one.

It's not a bad idea though....one unit that acts as radar detector and scanner. Didn't Uniden or someone already try that a few years back, though? Seems like I saw an ad for one, but the "scanner" portion was pre-programmed and had no user-programmable memories. I have no use for a scanner I can't program myself.

frequency and if you hear anything they are close!

The pro-2051 can pick up mobile extenders while running in the back ground while you are scanning I believe it has a 5 mile range I turned mine off it kept going off all time, it drove me nuts just like a radar detector.

radar is just a radio frequency. it is a really high frequency (RHF? lol jk). different for x, k, and ka. i dont remember off the top of my head what the freqs are. you can google it. but basically i guess if you had a scanner that went as high as those freqs, then it would work. havent tried it tho...so i could be wrong.

Actually Uniden has a great receiver out for 10,24 and 36Ghz...

Less than the cost of a P25 scanner too!

So let's see .. it's a "quiet" day, radio traffic is light. The officers are sitting out there with their RADAR. You are monitoring extenders. What do you think you will hear? The answer: NOTHING!

I also like the "speed enforcement operations". They'll use one officer (often in aircraft) to check the speeds and call them out to a group of officers ready to roll. They usually use a "local" frequency and do not go through a repeater. They could be on literally any frequency (although there are several common places to hear them). You're monitoring extenders and you'll miss them entirely. I totally enjoy listening to these ops. The speeds they call out, and a brief description of the vehicles, is wild & crazy.

It all depends on the area you are in. Here west of St. Louis monitoring the mobile extenders is a good idea. The troops like to run traps on 70, 270, 40/61 etc... One will be stationary on a bridge shooting traffic and call out to one of the 3 or 4 troops waiting on an entrance ramp.

my project is to rig something up that when a patrol car's radar gun goes off...my 97 will pick it up and you will hear a beeping noise once the scanner has recieved the frequency of the radar gun....thanks
