• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Harris is finally putting the old horse out to pasture.

The word is: the last date to order EDACS infrastructure equipment is Dec 31, 2011.

Also, Harris will provide parts support for SLERS through the end of contract in June of 2021.

Which is too bad. A lot of folks felt that EDACS was the best of the 3 trunking systems.

I was at the International Users Group meeting in Orlando last May and they said basically the same thing. They did not give any specific dates then but they confirmed that they were going to EoL EDACS. The statement was made that the last mobile radio to have EDACS in it was already in production. All of this came from one of the top product line / systems development managers. I want to say her name was Jan but I don't recall for sure now. As you can imagine, when she made those statements the SLERS users got really vocal and had plenty of questions.

Too bad. EDACS actually works compared to their other bum system, Open Sky.

It's common knowledge in the industry, not sure if there's anything in writing or not. I have also heard that the P7300 portable and M7300 mobile are the last radios which will have EDACS features in them, and they are not putting EDACS into the Unity. Harris is (wisely) going to focus on P25 for LMR going forward since that is where the industry is moving.

EDACS is pretty interesting to listen to- no annoying CTCSS hum of the sub woofer when the scanner is patched through my line in audio, I love the "0 Second" hang times too. Too bad its going out the door, it should be more popular.

I think the problem is that MOTO just dominates every aspect of the market an dshows no mercy.

MOTOs like the opressive dictator of the radio comm community.

That's debatable, Motorola was about the last major radio manufacturer to move to programmable radios. At that time their division that made crystals and permecode elements was a big profit center.

They're more like the big brother that won't ever let you surpass them.
