I'm currently in San Bernardino and we have been getting pounded by heavy rain for the past 30 minutes or so. There is also considerable thunder and lightning activity here as well.

Here is the only story I have found so far:

Tornado warning as Southern California gets wild weather

Associated Press - May 22, 2008 8:35 PM ET

MORENO VALLEY, Calif. (AP) - The National Weather Service has issued a tornado warning for parts of Southern California as the region is being pounded by wild weather including torrential downpours.

The weather service said at 4:38 p.m. Thursday that Doppler radar was tracking a tornado moving south near Moreno Valley in Riverside County.

A KABC-TV helicopter in the area has shown an overturned big rig blocking a highway and a half-dozen freight cars toppled over on nearby railroad tracks.

(Oops... I really do know how to spell county... I swear!)

Affirm... as I was getting onto the 215 from the 60, KFI 640 said something about a tornado and I joked "Hmm maybe theres one in Perris"... no sooner I turn my head and THERE IT IS --- a funnel from cloud all the way to the ground. I couldn't believe what I was seeing!

The tornado crossed the 215 fwy, causing a big rig to overturn and train to derail. Unfortunately my camera and radios were at home, so I had to snap with the cell phone.

Pictures (please excuse quality these are with older cell phone)

Tornado falling apart-wish I took it sooner before it roped out and died

Overturned big rig (hard to see in picture but it was blocking all lanes and caused N/B 215 to be shut down)

Wow... that's a bit too close for comfort. How big was the funnel cloud?

I'm about to drive back to Rancho Cucamonga from San Bernardino. I hope the weather has mellowed a bit. I haven't heard any thunder in about a half an hour now but it still looks quite dark outside. It's pretty weird that we're getting heavy rain, thunder, lightning, and even tornados down here when the Santa Cruz area is having some serious vegetation fire issues.

We musta got some hail NW of there in Redlands. I got home and the yard was covered with shredded leaves from the plum trees.

It was crackin and boomin just like back home in MO.

It dumped like a cow pissin on a flat rock at 3pm in Pomona. Kellog Hill was high adventure.

Nobody has mentioned that this is TOTALLY WIERD! Maybe you guys get them down there every now and then but I have never seen or heard of tornados that strong in CA before. The Climate is changing for sure. We better start getting ready in the coming years to start seeing them in CA regularly.

Reminds me of that AMAZING movie,

"The Day After Tomorrow"

Kinda scary when you actually think about it. I think FOR SURE climate is changing. Weather the past couple years, (especially this year) has been very different...

Think about it :/

I totally agree the weather patterns are changing. Just want to remind flks we had a tornado toucdown 1/2 mile from the SHORELINE in Pacifica, Ca. back in '82 and in '05 we had one touch down in South San Francisco, Ca. too. so although rare, tornadoes are possible here:)
