Boulder so are removing people from multiple stuck cars if persons do not come they are logging location and plate numbers foolish people!!

Broomfield PD is sending several officers and a mobile command post to the incident on US-36. Colorado National Guard is also responding with several Hummers to evacuate people. Numerous people have been stranded on the highway for several hours, and many people have abandoned their vehicles and walked, creating a problem with unoccupied vehicles stopped on the highway. Broomfield PD has several tow trucks en route and will be towing the vehicles up to the RTD station at 121 & US-36. North Metro has opened up 4 fire stations for the people walking off of the highway, and Flatirons Mall has opened up an entrance for the people as well.

Elsewhere, chains are required for commercial vehicles traveling on I-70 through the Denver metro area - a rare occurance.

BROOMFIELD - Many drivers have been stuck on U.S. 36 because the highway was closed Wednesday.

9NEWS has been told the Colorado National Guard is sending trucks to help stranded motorists.

The highway reopened around 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

Authorities say people should stay with their cars and stay warm until help arrives.

Patrol teams are on the overpass and highway walking to the vehicles.

The reason people are stuck is because others have gotten stuck in the middle of the road and abandoned their vehicles.

Authorities were trying to get people to back out on southbound Wadsworth Boulevard but could not because of other stranded cars.

Tow trucks called into clear the road are also stuck, but they are moving slowly toward FlatIron Crossing.

FlatIron Crossing has opened as a shelter for people stranded in the area. People can also go to four nearby fire stations, senior centers or the Broomfield Rec. Center.

Westy reporting 5 ft snow drifts on US-36 and the plows can't get to 'em. They're shutting US-36 back down again...That didn't last too long

Looks like Westy now deciding to shut down 36 again. Strange, they had been talking about reopening it not too long ago. Very interesting, if confusing, monitoring.

Someone should tell the Governor that the whole state is NOT a disaster and that emergency shelters are NOT open all over the state. I wonder if there is a single shelter open west of the Continental Divide tonight.

I guess he didn't learn after the June 2002 forest fires when he said the entire state was burning.

Heck he'll be moving on in a few weeks anyways, word is as an international banker guess that information really won't be needed in the future.

Still big problems with I-25 NB around 136th and 144th. TPD is really working hard to get those cars either tagged or moving. Last report was around 15 cars and a few semi's still stuck. Trying to clear the ramps at those exits to get them off the interstate. Given conditions at my place, not far from there, I doubt most of them will make it home. Fortunately, a number of shelters are available for those who accept a ride.

CDOT Truck

Hwy 6 @ mm 401 CDOT snow plow rolled several times and is resting on its side, fire had to help with entrapment, Driver is ok. Now the problem is to get the plow out(about 20-25 feet down) Hwy 6 was closed early today and believe it still is.

136th and 144th problem now cleared. TPD rescue units starting south on I25 from 144th to look for stranded motorists.

CSP Sgt requesting all wreckers to be chained up and respond at 8am to begin clearing over 100 stranded cars on the interstate between CR and Monument.
