Hey Guys,

I have a friend making a trip from Toronto to Halifax.. I am going to program a scanner for him to take along for the trip... I know Ontario very well and dont need any help for Ontario.. however I do not know QC, NB, of NS... What do you guys suggest I put in the scanner for the long road trip with a final destination in Halifax? Will he be able to pickup any PEI or Maine stations as well?

Thanks Guys!

I have been around here since 2008 and familiar with the DB.. what I don't know is what systems I should program in.. often there is more in the DB than one would need.

Can't speak for NB, but for NS pretty much everything is on the province-wide trunked system, the Aliant TMR. Specific sites you'll want to program would be Amherst, Claremont, Londonderry, Hilden, Shubenacadie, Sackville and then the Halifax-area sites Geizers Hill and Maritime Centre. Shouldn't be a need to program any more sites than that. RCMP, EHS (EMS) and Halifax police and fire are all on that system.

As for fire you'll want to visit the Cumberland, Colchester, Hants and Halifax county pages. The first three counties each operates their own VHF radio system, and on each county page I have those VHF systems as the first in the list (X county paging system, etc) so if you just program those frequencies you should be fine.
Halifax fire is on the trunked system, but paging is done via VHF, frequencies are in the Halifax county page.

That should be a start!

In NB most likely the main thing will be the RCMP's VHF system, seen in the DB. The Trans Canada runs right along the Maine border so the Aroostook County Sheriff and Maine State Police might be interesting additions. Check the Maine DB. Sorry to not list anything but I just had a minute to answer.

You will also get Fredricton City Police for a short while as you pass there. Put in Maryland Hill, Popple Hill, and Silverwood.

Aliant Trunked Mobile Radio System (TMRS) Trunking System, Province-Wide, Multi-State - Scanner Frequencies

Don't forget Ambulance New Brunswick.

PNB IRCS - HTH Ambulance New Brunswick Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference

You may get the odd blip on DNR and DOT. PNB IRCS - DNR Natural Resources Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference PNB IRCS - DOT Transportation Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference

Moncton's 800 is usually fairly busy and has decent range as you are cruising by.
