Ahh... I see the Exeter (the City) connection in your email handle. I should have known - been through your neck of the woods many times in my travels.

Work takes me from Oxnard (Ventura County), Simi Valley (Ventura County), Santa Clarita Valley (Valencia, Canyon Country, Newhall, Saugus), and Glendale, to West Los Angeles.

Thanks Sac-emt! I'd like to see some more subscribers from around here too! I know a few ham radio operators around these parts, and several old retired types who spend their lives on ham or CB. But none of them are into computers. Since we're so rural, CB radio is still quite useable.

I've been working on my Win97 file for Tulare County, and was planning to upload it soon for whoever may come along. I sure wished there was one there for me when I started.

Based in Stockton, work takes me anywhere as needed from Klamath Falls to Barstow and from San Francisco to Sparks, but primarily Merced, Stanislaus and San Joaquin counties.

Forgot to mention that I have history down south as well. Was a deputy sheriff for 8 1/2 years for San Bernardino, working and/or living in Victorville, San Bndo, Barstow, Trona (Ridgecrest), Baker, and 29 Palms. Was a volunteer FF in 29P and Trona before I was a deputy.

Exeter just isn't the same since the Kaweah Chuck Wagon closed. After a long backpacking trip in the Sierra a stop there was pretty much mandatory. For those of you who don't know the place I'm referring to, it was a rare place back in the mid 70's and before as not a lot of "all-you-can-eat buffets" existed at the time. This place had great food, with easy access, a reasonable price, and was located on the way home from many good southern Sierra backcountry trailheads. If you were out a week or more eating freeze dried, or if you are old enough "dehydrated" food, you used to dream about the Kaweah Chuck Wagon for the last couple of days on your hike. Everyone would discuss the items they looked forward to eating just as soon as they got there. It was located on the west side of Highway 65, a few miles south of Highway 198, on the north side of the town square, near the water tower in downtown Exeter. In the late nineties I tried to stop there while on a long car camping trip in California with my wife, who had been hearing about the place for years, and it was closed. I was crestfallen! The only choice nearby was just more homogenized, mediocre, franchised junk like Mickey D's, KFC, Pizza Hut, and the like.
