Sounds good! My name is Steve. I live in Springfield, MA and I currently have a BC72XLT, a BC95XLT and a BC248CLT. I mainly listen to my local & neighboring cities police, fire department and public works. I also listen to some various other things that I can receive. Nothing fancy! :)

I live on the eastern side of the Sierra Nevada mountains of California, what residents often call "the right side of California." We are isolated from the west side of California by the second largest area of Congressionally designated wilderness in the lower 48. I listen to all of Mono County where I live, the northern portion of Inyo County, California Highway Patrol and the Calif. Dept. of Transportation in this same area, as well as a few repeaters in Mineral, Nye, and Esmeralda Counties in Nevada, and the Nevada Highway Patrol. I'm able to pick a repeater each on the Sierra and Toiyabe National Forests, the backcountry net of Sequoia-Kings Canyon National Parks even though terrain blocks me from its repeaters by listening to a 400 MHz downlink on a peak I can almost see from my house, and most of the Inyo National Forest system by listening to a combination of 400 MHz links and the regular VHF system. I also listen to the Bureau of Land Management, Bishop Field Office. I listen to the fish and game agencies of both California and Nevada, the Calif. Dept. of Forestry and Fire Protection (CDF), and two state park units in California. I can also listen to much of the communications for the northern portion of the service area of Southern California Edison by listening to their trunked system. The Mammoth Mountain Ski Area trunked system booms into my location. When I'm mobile during frequent visits to Yosemite and Death Valley National Parks I listen to the National Park Service and the concessionaire operations in those parks.

When I lived further north in Bridgeport, the county seat of Mono County, I owned a home where there is a narrow reception path that includes Yosemite National Park and continues all the way to northern Monterey County on the coast of California. It included stereo FM radio reception and sometimes even TV signals. Signal quality varied depending on how much of a winter we had and how long snow lingered on one particular 13,000 mountain, the west and northern faces of which probably functioned as a large reflector. The amount, size, and density of the snow on these faces seemed to affect signal quality and strength.

Here in Mammoth Lakes, California there is a lower gap (9,500 feet) in the crest of the Sierra and it allows a limited reception of two electronic sites on the west side of the mountain range. I use an amplified antenna system made by Diamond Antenna that helps pull in signals that would not otherwise be received and a large and nearby mountain range face about ten miles wide and 11,000 to 13,000 feet acts as a relector for signals from the north. The more and denser the snow on this face, the better the reception.

Hi from the Shoals area of NorthWest Alabama!

On a semi routine basis the scanners are tuned to most Alabama State agencies (DPS, DOT, ABC, AFC), Mississippi Highway Patrol - New Albany, Tennessee Highway Patrol - Lawrenceburg, AL-MS-TN Statewides, Norfolk Southern Railroad, NW Shoals Regional Airport, Memphis Center, selected local and regional public safety agencies/organizations, marine channels 14, 16, & 22, some US-Tennessee Valley Authority operations, and selected local industry/business.

For a more detailed listing - http://www.radioreference.com/forums/showthread.php?t=77283

Primary modes of receiving are BCT-8, BC-145xl, & Pro-2004.

Event scanning is my favorite opportunity, particularly airshows. Event equipment includes a Pro-97 and a Pro-83. Banks are programmed for military air acts, most common civilian air act frequencies, and various often used business frequencies. One bank is field programmed as the event progresses. After an hour or so most everything needed is moved/programmed into the event bank and the others turned off. Signal Stalk/Close Call is the best feature to come along in recent years for event scanning!

Generally, I'll have a set of headphones for the Pro-97 (for air ops) and an ear bud for the Pro-83 (ground ops). Most of the time the ear bud is just lying inside an earphone cup and not directly in my ear. With the Pro-83 volume turned all the way up, I find that this practice works well enough not to miss much with ground ops "in the background" of the air ops.

A couple of banks in the Pro-97 are loaded with Interoperability specific frequencies. My hope is that I NEVER have to hear any actual emergency transmissions over a protracted period of time!

I've been broadcasting since 1977 (currently - http://www.tva.gov/abouttva/tvap/index.htm) and have told sheriff's deputies, forest rangers, state troopers, marine police, revenue agents, and federal officers where to go.

Monitoring local & state police, fire, ems etc. in Southern New Hampshire and Northern Massachussetts. Also regularly monitor the Manchester, NH airport as well. Been into the hobby ever since I was a kid back in the early 70's, using a Realistic Patrolman 6 manual tune radio from RS.

Currently use a Pro-96 for mobile and a Pro-2096 & BC796D at the home shack using a Scantenna at 35'. The local & state PD's in NH are almost all digital, while most of MA is still analog.

Going thru some weird kind of mid-life crisis (nearing 50) right now, as I have recently started to collect vintage crystal scanners & monitors from the 70's. They are all functional, but mainly have them for nostalgia purposes. I could never afford them when I was a kid!

sounds like a perfect setup for google maps.
That would be interesting...

I'm in Elk Grove, California. I mainly listen to Elk Grove PD. But sometimes I listen to Sacramento PD, the Sacramento Sheriffs Dept., and if I hear the fire engines I may tune into the fire dept. channels to see what's going on.
If it's quiet in Sacramento County (not often) then I'll listen to the counties around me that I can pick-up with my scanner...
I primarily use my 396 but if I want to monitor more than one channel, I'll break out the Pro-95.

I'm located in socal. I primarily listen to the following with a pro-96:

-El Centro PD/FD
-Calexico PD?FD
-Brawley PD/FD
-Holtville PD
-Imperial County SO/FD
-CHP

and thanks to the San Diego County RCS (800mhz), I can hear agencies 120+ miles away on the same system loud and clear:

-El Cajon CHP
-SDSO Santee
-SDSO Rural
-SDSO Lemon Grove
-Heartland/Inland FD
-EMS from SD area

I also enjoy listening to airband, busy due to LAX and SAN:

-Los Angeles and Albuquerque ARTCC
-Socal Approach
-local airports

In addition, I enjoy listening in on HAM radio:

-IRLP/Winsystem network (ham users connected worldwide, pretty cool!)
anyone apart of it? it's daily at 11PM pst. the local repeater is 445.6375, but there are repeaters located throughout the country and around the world.
