Hi from the Shoals area of NorthWest Alabama!
On a semi routine basis the scanners are tuned to most Alabama State agencies (DPS, DOT, ABC, AFC), Mississippi Highway Patrol - New Albany, Tennessee Highway Patrol - Lawrenceburg, AL-MS-TN Statewides, Norfolk Southern Railroad, NW Shoals Regional Airport, Memphis Center, selected local and regional public safety agencies/organizations, marine channels 14, 16, & 22, some US-Tennessee Valley Authority operations, and selected local industry/business.

Primary modes of receiving are BCT-8, BC-145xl, & Pro-2004.
Event scanning is my favorite opportunity, particularly airshows. Event equipment includes a Pro-97 and a Pro-83. Banks are programmed for military air acts, most common civilian air act frequencies, and various often used business frequencies. One bank is field programmed as the event progresses. After an hour or so most everything needed is moved/programmed into the event bank and the others turned off. Signal Stalk/Close Call is the best feature to come along in recent years for event scanning!
Generally, I'll have a set of headphones for the Pro-97 (for air ops) and an ear bud for the Pro-83 (ground ops). Most of the time the ear bud is just lying inside an earphone cup and not directly in my ear. With the Pro-83 volume turned all the way up, I find that this practice works well enough not to miss much with ground ops "in the background" of the air ops.
A couple of banks in the Pro-97 are loaded with Interoperability specific frequencies. My hope is that I NEVER have to hear any actual emergency transmissions over a protracted period of time!
I've been broadcasting since 1977 (currently -
