I need to buy a Affordable rotor to turn a Yagi antenna. I don't need the best ,just something that i get get buy with. Does anyone have any recommendations on Brand names or dependability from your experiences. I have been watching a few on eBay but i'm not sure if i should buy used or not . Any Ideas?

I use This One It has 12 preset memories which is really nice. But, it may be out of your price range.

Looks like Wally World has it for $57 bux, that's pretty cheap!

The 2 questions you need to ask are how many square feet of wind loading is the yagi going to have and how long is the boom on the antenna.

If you're only going to turn a tv antenna, you can get by with a cheap rotor.

If you're going to turn an antenna with a 10-20 foot boom, then the twisting moment needs to be taken into consideration along with the area of the elements.

If you live in an area with a lot of wind, twisting moment becomes a consideration.

Otherwise you will shred your rotor. I speak from experience. I have had to replace the ring gear in rotors because of this.

Hi Wink and all,

Frankly I love the smell of a Diesel locomotive but not before breakfast. On a serious note, a forum is not an on line catalog, here you'll get opinions, there you'll get useful information. Your question would better be rephrased as "What brands of rotors are there?" and browse for one that best suits your purpose. There you'll find the specs you need, torque, wind load survivability, mounting options and of course a control box with features you'll find useful. For my own purposes remembering the heading is sufficient.

Then you can skip the question entirely and go to the ham radio stores' web sites, HRO, Cheapham (a couple of friends, plug) Fair Radio, Burkhart and others abound with really neat stuff. Check out the ham forums and web sites too, click on the ads/links and you're there. Any web search engine will take you where you want to go, there's lots out there.

One point worth remembering, one with a brake is preferable. If your antenna is of substantial weight and/or has significant wind loading characteristics you don't want it to jig around in the wind and damage the ring and pinion gears, replacement can be expensive.
