Recently, I was having internet issues that would cause lag and just not do anything. I had a modem-Ethernet- to wireless router at the time and had it for a while. So I figured eh, old age so replace! I bought a Actiontec GT784WN Modem Router Combo at my local tech store. I came home, set it up and it worked fine for a few hours then I had issues. I contacted my ISP (Centurylink DSL) and they had me set my VPI (8) and VCI (35) and that did the trick! it worked fine for days on end! Now today, mid day it quit working. So I know stuff needs a reboot. Did that no such luck. Master clear/reset and reentered the info and still issues! Would say "Establishing a secure connection"in Chrome and just spin. then it would kick me out with no DNS and not even a second later no internet. Called tech support once and got the run around. Call later for round 2 and got some more help. Said I have everything right and ran tests. Had me move modem to different phone jack, it worked fine! Said my wiring in that jack was bad. Replaced it to still have issues. Reverted back to old setup and it would/will be slow/non-moving one minute and lightning fast the next! I'm calling them again tomorrow but I'm about to pull my hair out and drink! Haha! Speed is 1.5 and neighbors are having these same issues!

if neighbors are having the same issues.

then its a DLSAM somewhere along the neighborhood mainline or the CO Mainline nearby at a CO Station.

that is not serviceable by the end user and all TelCo issue.

Now this AM, before I called CenturyLink I thought I'd give the modem combo another try! Plugged everything in and it works fine! Only issue I'm having now is that I have a AT&T Microcell for coverage of my cell phones and my AT&T Wireless Home Phone to save some $! Every once in a while the Microcell will drop. Causing all phones to drop calls! I had this issue earlier in the week and called AT&T and they said it was bad. So I just replaced it with a brand new one from my AT&T store. What could be causing this???

I would agree with Capstar, If all are having issues then its somewhere on the dslam, do you know if it vdsl or jsut dsl? What is the speeds that you are paying for?

VDSL would be sitting within 1300 feet of the CO.

ADSL ( ADSL+ and ADSL-2 ) are the more common types.

I had this issue years ago. Internet and phone service would come and go. Mostly be off during the day and would be working when I woke up in the morning. Every time that it would go out, the phone would act like it was off the hook. I'd call to complain and customer service would always tell me that I had a phone off the hook somewhere in the house. After three weeks of this, I went out to the service panel on the side of my house and unplugged the entire house from the phone service and measured back to the CO a 100 Ohm reading. I called and asked for a tech to meet me as soon as possible due to the intermittent nature. He showed up, saw the 100 Ohm reading and said, "Ill be back."

He came back about 10 minutes later with a tiny piece of wire that has fallen onto my pair at their service panel. A previous tech (from three weeks prior) was installing service for another customer and got too happy when he was stripping wires and the small piece fell on my pair. During the day, the Sun would heat up the wire and it would expand, causing my pair to short out. At night, after the wire cooled down, everything would go back to normal.

After he found the wire, I never had anymore trouble.

I know it been a while since I posted in this thread, but I thought I would give an update. Here a few weeks ago, my dad and myself got so mad that we requested a Centurylik Tech come out to the house and see what the issue was! So 2 techs came out and ran their tests and whatnot. They said we should we should be getting at least 8Mbps. So after battling it out with their own people over the phone, I've found out that it's on Centurylink's end!!! The switch is oversold!!! New fiber optic cable is being ran but no date on completion!!!
