• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello,

I am looking into purchasing RPM2 to program our agencies do-75 radios. I know with CPS I am able to change the order of zones and add conventional frequencies even without a ASK. Is this possible with RPM2? Or do I require an ASK even to change the order of talk groups within zones / add new conventional frequencies.

Thanks!

There is no such thing as an ASK with Harris. The "system key" is an AAC in RPM2 and it's a physical dongle that you need in order to be able to verify the licensing on the software and use it. There's a download version as well that acts a little different.

Essentially you need the dongle to even open RPM2. And said dongle also needs to make sure it has all of your trunking system information on it if you are editing trunking personalities.

There is a legitimate download/CD installable version of RPM2/RPM14 (It’s bundled). That license is permanently installed to a single machine, where the dongle licensed version may travel to different computers via the dongle. You save a few hundred bucks but lose the ability to move to different computers.

The system keys are often stored on separate dongles and you plug in the one(s) for the system(s) you are working with. This is usually because those system keys are supplied to you by the authorizing agency.

There is a provision for virtual keys within AAC, but most agencies don’t trust them. So it is technically possible to use RPM2 in a completely dongle-less mode, but it it very uncommon.

The CD distribution works well for me because I travel with the computer, which has limited USB ports and I don’t want to deal with losing or damaging the license dongle and being dead in the water! I still need system key dongles, which already eat usb ports.

Using RPM2 dongle-less does not go well with the latest Windows 11 updates.. something with Microsoft net framework

I believe in the RPM2 14D release, you can manage the data on the radio not locked by the distribution key (aka ASK key). any trunk systems are greyed out, but you can assign the trunk talkgroups to zones and rearrange the order of the talkgroups in the zones.

Not surprised… I’m immune to all that windows 11 crap. That’s the beauty of enterprise. You get the security patches but not any driver breaking feature “upgrades”…
