• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Trying to program a retivis RT95 with CHIRP. Downloaded from the radio to get that list, populated it with 2m and 70cm freqs, got the message 70cm won't upload to the radio. Did the 3 finger thing, the number was already 1 so if should be set to the US, so I also tried 2, no go. Downloaded the newest version of CHIRP, no change. I'm out of ideas. I know retivis isn't a very premio brand, but man..

I found CHIRP to be a PITA with my RT-95. The RT Systems CPS is well worth the purchase; it gives you access to more settings than CHIRP, and is a lot easier to use.

I don't have my 95 hooked up right now, but I'll look at it later to see if there's some menu setting that might need changing.

I just tried Chirp since I was using it before. Is the retivis software any better? Or if all else fails and I return it, I wonder if there is any comparable dual band radio to try..

The Retevis software is worth a try, as well as the anytone AT778 selection in CHIRP. They're both kinda limited compared to the RT Systems stuff.

There's lots of decent dual-banders out there. I like my Radioddity DB-50 much better than the 95. It's slightly bigger, but has a detachable faceplate; the DB-50B is similar, but with a mic controller. Both are 50W on VHF and 45 on UHF, so better suited for simplex than a 25 watter. Receive is quite a bit better as well.

Chirp is not the "do all, end all" software everyone makes it out to be. I went through the same dog and pony show with the last two Baofengs I tried to program. I finally purchased, for more than the radio cost, the RT Systems software and cable for the UV-32 I bought for myself. It took three different cables and three different software packages before I found a combination that would work for the BF-21/UV-21 I was asked to program for someone else. However, to program the Yaesu FT-65 I just got, it took just one try with the RT Systems software and cable.

The hassle just isn't worth the savings...

I'll have a look, thanks.

Hmm, dang. I'm not that sold on this radio anyway. I'll try the retivis software, but might just return this thing before it gets to be that much of.a hassel. Thanks.
