Does anyone know why Salem City PD in Salem County is using 453.5625 146.2 PL (WNCW528) for their dispatch? The frequency is very active. The entire county is on their 500mhz trunked system with talkgroups assigned to all services including Salem City. But I have never heard any activity from Salem City PD on any of the county's talkgroups. Rather odd that they are on a UHF system and the rest of the county is trunked.

Why odd? Perhaps they don't want to pay use the system and consider what they have to be adequate.
If there are common mutual aid tgs. they may have access to those should they be required.

I wasn’t aware that it was a pay to play. I had seen 155.430 before but the UHF frequency was new to me.
Lots of activity tonight.

I pick up Salem PD from at least 20 miles away on that UHF frequency with a handheld and rubber duck from my house, It seems to work very well for them. I have never heard anything on 155.430. I notice from the DB that the court house uses that frequency also but I know that the Sheriff''s officers use the trunk system, How ever they may use the VHF inside the building and I am not picking them up.

Salem City is using the 453.5625 now. The 155.430 is their old frequency, as best I can tell now unused. Up until a year or maybe 2 ago, they were self dispatched, but have since gone in with the county center for dispatch. I believe due to the distance, the county is pushing more power, and from a higher tower than the tower at the police station they were using, so their comm's have become much more easily monitored outside the city limits now.
