A while ago I measured my TRX-1's current drain using NiMH batteries. The results are below. Current drain in SAME standby mode was the same as when monitoring/scanning with the receiver squelched (about 170 ma). This makes sense because the receiver is still powered up and listening for a SAME alert code to be transmitted, as evidenced by observing the signal strength meter or turning on IF output mode. Only the audio stage is powered down. So battery life would be longer than if you were scanning busy frequencies, but the same as scanning inactive frequencies.
TRX-1 current drain measurements using NiMH cells
Measurements with light mode off
-- Standby (Browser mode) - 60 mA
-- Monitoring/Scanning (squelched) - 170-175mA (conventional. or trunked, digital or analog)
-- Receiving - unsquelched, minimum volume - 208 mA (conventional. or trunked, digital or analog)
-- Receiving (full audio output into speaker) - 360 mA
Additional current drain with display light on
-- Lowest setting - 2 mA
-- Highest setting - 19 mA
-- Highest setting, display and keypad light - 33 mA
-- (Highest setting, keypad light only - 15 mA)
