This system is pretty big. Do I need to program, or if I program all the frequencies in 1 bank, will the radio function properly? (BC-796D) Or do I need to put each 'region' in separate banks?

Thanks

Depends on what you want to listen to. If one of the sites has everything you want to hear, then you only need to program one site. You cannot mix freqs from separate sites in the same bank and expect the unit to trunk multiple sites. Only one site per bank.

Does that usually mean that they do not duplicate talkgroups when there are different mountain sites? (i.e. TG 1234 is TAC 4, that TG would not be included in all the sites? ) Or as you say, I would need to program different sites into separate bank, and duplicate that TG if it is used in all the different regions.

Thanks for the reply

Talkgroups are duplicated where there is a need on the particular system. I am not very familiar with the SB county system, but I have monitored several of the sites while on the road. The database here at RR does a pretty good job defining which talkgroups are on which sites and if a particular talkgroup serves a purpose over multiple areas, it will be simulcast among the different sites as necessary.

It depends on which part of the county you're in. Most of the talkgroups are not patched between systems, with the exception of certain fire ids (x-FIRE-1 patched with 6-FIREGROUND-7).

So, you have to program the system you want to listen, one system per bank.
