Hello,

Making an inquiry for a person in that area that's trying to monitor Sherman Fire. She states they are a volunteer department. If it's in the RR database I'm missing where, especially if it's on Starcom. I did find this message but it doesn't say what they're using:

I see a fireground frequency on the Sangamon County main page, but that's about it.

Thanks for any assistance.

I was in Springfield a couple months ago and the County Fire Dispatch channel was still broadcasting Fire calls on the VHF High Band frequency listed in the RR data base. The County Fire Department other radio traffic appears to have moved to the Sangamon County simulcast towers on Starcom 21. My BCD325P2 won’t decode the simulcast sites. I can follow Springfield PD, Sangamon County Sheriff, ISP and other LE agencies on the Springfield site/antennas atop the Wyndham Hotel at 700 East Adams and the site at the State Police Academy.

I can’t specifically remember Sherman FD being toned out on VHF but I do remember hearing most of the rural Sangamon County Fire Departments being toned out on VHF. I feel sure Sherman Fire Dept. area would be handled at the County 911 PSAP and dispatched the same as the other rural Fire Departments.

I don't hear anything on the VHF System anymore for Rural Fire. Have they removed the hardware? I am not sure but I think it is safe to say the VHF system is dead. When they switched over to Starcom they continued to use 158.820 for paging along with RF6 (Encrypted) but this is no longer the case. "Rural Fire" is all of the fire departments in Sangamon County (includes Sherman) with the exception of Springfield. A lot of the rural departments had/have there own VHF local channels (under Municipalities). I am pretty sure each FD has a local TG on Starcom but I haven't paid enough attention to log them. The majority of the traffic is in the clear on RF1 and a little on RF2. Paging is encrypted on RF6.
