SBC frequencies

Ok... I have not had much luck with the time warner radio frequencies... Still gotta work on figuring that one out, But how about SBC.... Does anyone know what type of radio system they are runing and what frequency(s) they may be runing on??? Thanks for any info

SBC uses those heavy-duty MDT type PCs in their rigs and cell phones for dispatching crews.

As for Time-Warner, they are either on frequencies that they have licensed to themselves or possibly on other SMR systems.

In Michigan SBC is using the OLD analog cell phone in the field and connections through them for their lap tops

Cingular Wireless a.k.a. SBC

It might be just me, but, it seems counter-intuitive that SBC would use radios for the bulk of communication needs when they are in the POTS telephone *and* the wireless telephone business.

SBC uses both cell's and SMR radios in most of the south. Some of them are even using the Southern Linc iDEN system. They sometimes operate in areas where cellular coverage is spotty at best, and since they are involved in not only setting up/tech checking the Cingular system, but also many other communications needs, they need multiple communications needs. Just so folks know, Cingular is the mobile/cell phone division for Bellsouth Telecommunications in a lot of the south. And to put a cap on faulty logic,.. if you think that since they are a cell company just use cells for coms,.. Bellsouth is a phone company, so why would they need a Conventional Radio System, or heck even a TRS? Because of the needs of the company. Why tie up phone/cellular systems with extra needs when you can get the job done on regular radio networks.

Here are three SBC frequencies that I have in my Pro-95 for the St. Louis, MO area:
SW Bell Tele 154.51500
SW Bell Tele 464.92500
SW Bell Tele 469.92500

I don't hear alot on these, but I do from time to time.

I was not aware that SBC owned cingular wireless... Then again so many companys are "merging" togeather.... I can see how using a MDT can be benificial for dispatching crews, And obtaining customer information, However using a SMR Or other type of trunked/conventional system would serve the same purpous. At one time in my area time warner did use a conventional system, they opperated on 461.625mhz, That specific frequency is still licenced in fostoria ohio, Wich is only 20 sum miles east of Findlay. But I do not hear them operate on it anymore. And I had no clue what type of system SBC ran. But thanks for the posts!! Happy Scanning

SBC still has their 451 MHz licenses here in N TX but I haven't
checked to see if they are still active recently.

SBC owns 60% of Cingular and BellSouth owns the other 40%.
Cingular is in the process of buying AT&T Wireless Services.
From what I have heard, at least here in the DFW area where they
each have a network, Cingular is only going to keep
the AT&T cell sites at locations where they don't already have one
and use the existing Cingular switches.

not to get off the subject or anything, But it's crazy how these big corperations are trying to monopolize... I can understand SBC wanting to buy out as many corps as they can, In order to keep up with TWC... TWC already has the new "digital phone service" coming to my area, They own road runner internet service and AOL..."as far as I know" Pretty soon it's gonna be just SBC and time warner. I give up on the freq's... I just thought it would be cool listening to all the utility services in my aria.. like AEP... It's nice to have somewhat of an idea when power will be restored after it is lost and how it was lost. It would work well with the same ocncept for SBC and TWC.

In California Cingular and SBC basically operate like two different companies. It's interesting to see the differences in other places.

SBC California is in the process of getting their 900 LTR system set up throughout the State. All sites are independent of each other and offer telephone interconnect. They still may use their 451 TMRS stuff also (maybe the old 151.985 in some places). Service Techs use Panasonic Toughbooks with wireless cards to get their work and have cell phones also. Cingular techs strictly use their PCS service.
