Hi all,

My brother is looking to buy his first scanner, and he is considering the BC346XT. He asked me to check and see if this scanner would be compatible with the systems (mainly police, fire, EMS) in the area of Davidson County. It looks like the BC346XT is not P25 compatible but will work with Motorolla Type II SmartZone system.

It looks like the Metropolitan Government Of Nashville & Davidson County (Motorola) trunking system is the one he would mainly listen to... but I am not from the area... is this the main system for Police/EMS/Fire and will it work with this scanner? I saw the note about rebanding but on the RR wiki it reads that the BC346XT can be updated to support rebanding.

Thank you so much for the help, I just want to make sure I am giving the right advice before he spends money on this.

Any other suggestions are welcome, but it will need to support a USB-1 cable and be able to be programmed via FreeSCAN since I will be doing the programming for him.

Thanks!

You won't be hearing much at all without P25 capability. All Public Safety, with the exception of some of the Sheriff's units are on the P25 system. State agencies are on the TACN. Some of the surrounding area is still conventional, but that is rapidly changing. In fact, the Motorola Legacy system will be going away in the not so distant future. Even the Airport's system is now P25.
