Another option of course, is just reformat your old dead box (unless it's a hardware issue) to run linux, then stream that way..

Great part about that, is you don't need much in the way of hardware to get it done.. I run mine off a Pentium II 400mhz.. Sits quietly in the corner of my bedroom, no keyboard or monitor. Over 100 days of continuous uptime now..

The trouble with using the line-in is that you'd also hear any music I listen to or videos I watch. It's bad enough that I have to listen to it all at once, I sure don't want to broadcast it all. -Rod-

Open up "volume control", go to Options/properties/recording then click OK, make sure that only Line-In is selected and not the mixer.

Its still a bit low here. I have to crank my speaker volume 3/4 up to hear it good. Other than that it sounds good.

Unfortunately, Vista doesn't seem to make it that simple. I switched to Line In this morning and it seemed to work just fine. The trouble is *I* couldn't hear it unless I streamed it back to myself...and that just seems silly. So for now, it's on the mic input. I don't know why the volume should be low. I actually have the volume on the scanner up higher than normal (compared to when I was using WME) and it's definitely competing with whatever video or TV show I happen to be watching. My brain's not used to listening to a Sheriff talking about the tornado that toppled a train in Carson here as well as a baseball game.

ANYWHOoo - I made a change to the proxy and got rid of the freaking Broadwave page. It was confusing people no end. The proxy is now pointing to a page on my site with only two links, one for broadband, one for dialup. Use whichever one suits your needs. I'd appreciate it if people would test it and make sure it all looks ok. It looks ok to me but YMMV.

Thanks for everyone's patience. The feed will be up from about 8am-1am Pacific time (11am-4am Eastern) 7 days/week. -Rod-

well, I think you did something, the feed is a little louder. I dont have to turn my speakers all the way up to hear it. Great job on the feed. :) -Louie-

Thanks, Louie. Are you hearing the FD's ok? Many of the units only show one or two bars on my 'swr' so they can be tough to pick out. It seems like my Scantenna has a blind spot when it comes to the San Fernando Valley. I can hear points south in the county just fine, not not so fine in the Valley. It may be the hills surrounding me coupled with the freqs they use, or maybe their repeater setup isn't as extensive as LAPD's, which I pick up fine anywhere. I dunno. Maybe for grins and giggles I'll rotate the antenna 90 degrees and see if it makes any difference, though it shouldn't. -Rod-

I finally had a chance to revamp the webpage serving the LAPD stream and think I'm about finished, though I am contemplating adding a complete list of the freqs available...but since it numbers about 800, I don't know if I want to go there ;)

Anyhow, feel free to check out the new look and feel. You can use the link in my sig or the direct route here:

Enjoy :) -Rod-

Website looks good Rod, audio sounds great as usual. Also I wouldn't worry about the LAFD side reception, it is always a little on the soft audio side compared to LAPD's digital system. I noticed you stream with a 796D, have you thought about adding text tags to your stream?

It seems like the geography of the area dictates that I can hear LAFD and even county 20 miles south better than I can hear them just 3 miles away on the otherside of the hill. I often don't know what's going on in my own backyard.

This new system doesn't have a 9 pin connection available I'm afraid, so no text tags at this time. Maybe I'll look into a card at the end of the Summer. -Rod-

Hi Guys,

As you can see from the date on the post above, it's been awhile since I've posted. Mostly it's because everything's been fine with my scanner feed and life in general.

The last 6 months though have been a challenge as I've had to battle both cancer and a burnt out motherboard. Until this morning I just haven't had the time or will to get the scanner back online. That's changed! I set everything back up, turned it on, tested it and all seems well.

For my LAPD (and etc) scanner feed, just click the link below then select which feed you want, the dialup or broadband. Enjoy, and hope you've all been well. -Rod-
