I am wondering if someone knows the best spot to get scanner frequencies for Olympia, Tumwater, Black Lake/McLane Fire Department. I have the one that dispatches them but I cannot ever here them talk back to dispatch or on a fire scene, etc.

Any ideas?

Yeah I tried those frequencies but for some reason they don't work. I have the Uniden BC72XLT Handheld Scanner, so maybe that has something to do with it as I am not sure. I am new to this.

Only program the output frequencies - you're not going to hear the inputs unless you're real close to the action. That little duckie on the 72 is very inefficient at VHF hi freqs, so stick with the base stuff first. Float your mouse over Type at the top of the column to get an idea of what the abbreviations all mean

Mike,
In the database I believe that input Freq. is turned off as default setting for non Admin or non Premium members.

I am not sure which ones I am using. I am so new to all this. What would you all recommend for a handheld scanner that will pick up most everything.

I live out in Olympia/Thurston County, WA and just became a volunteer firefighter. I am looking for a radio that I can listen to the police and fire frequencies on. I want something that will allow me to hear calls and things happening on a scene not just the dispatch calls.

Does that help? I am looking for a handheld scanner, if possible

I live in Shelton and have a (very old) Radio Shack hand-held hooked up to a AntennaCraft ST2. I can here just about everything going on in Olympia. Check Craigslist. I just saw a Pro 2018 base unit for $50 up in Brier.
