Hi,

Since I cannot find an SDS100 anywhere in Canada and the US retailers don't ship here or are out of stock, I am inclined to purchase from a retailer in Europe having stock.

That said, they carry only the SDS100E, which appears like the only difference is the power adapter for 220V service.

Would anyone know if this is the only difference?

thanks in advance for the help.

RadioWorld is sold out. They didn't give me an ETA as their site mentions 'on order'. :(

Another radio shop out in Calgary also mentions sold out. I don't know what it is about the SDS100 but even eBay doesn't list any.

BTW, I've compared the user manual and specifically the tech sections and there is definitely a difference with the bands. The EU model doesn't seem to discriminate NFM and WFM plus AM is only for aircraft it seems. so no CB band and clear reference to 6m nor 10m. Weird unlike the US model.

I guess I'll wait for RadioWorld to receive stock unless someone has another lead...

The problem is getting the IC chips to make the scanner. Even if you were to order from Europe there is a good chance they are also on back-order. If car manufactures can't get the chips to build cars, scanners are probably near the bottom of the list for supply.

I thought this model was discontinued = no longer manufactured?
Interesting… where’d you hear they were no longer making the SDS100? Uniden’s flagship scanners are currently the SDS100 & SDS200. Unless I missed the memo, there is nothing new from Uniden. But this micro chip shortage may have caused Uniden to discontinue one or both SDS models, especially if they have newer gear in the pipeline. And we all know how secretive Uniden is when it comes to new releases. This secret marketing scenario may also be a reason Uniden would not announce any discontinuations also. But I’m only spitballing here… I have zero knowledge of what Uniden is doing but what I write is well within any reasonable assumptions made where Uniden is concerned. Uniden may just be thinking the scarce microchip supply should be dedicated to a new model (they secretly have in the pipeline) when they get enough of them.

How’s that for a theory? Time will tell. And don’t start spreading it as gospel. I am only guessing here…

The SDS100? Hardly.
The SDS100 and 200 are the only two scanners out there that can handle the simulcast systems reliably. You are going to see these around for atleast another five years.

The biggest problem for the scanners are the IC chips to make them and also getting them shipped to locations around the world.
right now there are 30 to 40 ships sitting off shore of Los Angeles waiting to enter port to be off loaded.
Just keep a close eye on dealers and they will be back in stock for a VERY short time before they run out again..

A US dealer's response when I asked about stock. I don't recall exactly which one. It may have been scannermaster but I'll dig it up. I was surprised too as normally you announce something like this when you have a more recent product. The SDS 100 is still over 3 years old though. Uniden's due for a new offering.

Anyway, chip shortage makes perfect sense. Same reason PCs and video cards get sold out. I'll hang tight I guess and keep checking radio world here. Thanks.

Have you tried Ham Radio Outlet? Web site shows SDS100 in stock tonight and say they offer worldwide shipping options.

I did actually. Kinda funny. I go through the order process, checkout but without having to select shipping options or payment and then I get this email with a TBD shipping charge and note saying they'd get back to me to complete the order.

Like WTF??? why is this so ridiculous. I'm about to give up and just get the freaking BCD436. LOL
