Are there any scanner users in Duluth scanning with a Radioshack Pro 197 that are able to pick up the Lake Co Sheriff's Department & Two Harbors PD on the Armer system?

I have not yet tried putting my 197 in search mode to see if it picks up Lake Co. on St. Louis County sites. However, Saint Louis County is not on ARMER yet, would this make a difference as far as my radio being able monitor Lake County?

Try putting it in the trunk search mode and see what you hear. You might just find that Saint Louis County is simulcasting on VHF and ARMER. Sometimes an adjacent counties traffic is carried on a site. Give it a try and please report back here with what you hear!

First off, my disclaimer is that I'm new to trunking, and only had my RS 197 a short time so I might ask quite a few questions when I don't understand the articles I read including The Shack's owners manual.
To do a trunking search, is that the same thing as pushing the srch button on the keypad when the radio is in scanning mode? Also, I have multiple conventional freqs programmed and scanning, does this make a difference in the success of trunking searches?

Since you are new, it might be less confusing at first to just focus on the ARMER system for a while. Just temporarily lock out the conventional stuff for now and listen to ARMER in the TRUNK SEARCH mode. That way you will hear what ever users pop up. It is possible that you will hear Lake County carried on your ARMER site. They might be simulcasting on BOTH VHF and ARMER until they fully transition over.

Thanks for the suggestion! I have read the 197 users manual multiple times, and have not seen how to put the scanner in trunk search mode. How do I do this?
You have to enter a wildcard as a talkgroup...

Although I haven't seen/heard it announced anywhere, I believe all Lake County LE is now on ARMER. I have not heard anything on the analog system over the last couple months, either.
Their talkgroup also does not appear to be forced onto Duluth any more, so only when a radio is affiliated will traffic be heard.
But with more and more users transitioning traffic is really starting to increase.
