Well.. I hate to jump in here cause I normally stay away from heated discussions... but this is regarding the cell phone topic... Why are they rebanding the 800mhz range now? Nextel... theres been stories of just the damn phone coming near some scanners, and the scanner losing its memory... I've watched my monitor flicker really bad when they ring... I've heard my subwoofer makeing loud poping noises cause of it.. IMHO I think if a lil cell phone can do that then what could they do to other more important electronics?

why do you think they are doing that to a monitor and speakers......

THEY ARE EMITTING ENOUGH POWERED TRANSMISSION!!!

and this is about SCANNER's in planes, not CELL PHONE's

1) this is not the rebanding thread.

2) the interference from the Nextel (iDEN) handsets has nothing to do with rebanding.
It is the interference from the Nextel SITES that is the concern.

Really!?!? I guess I learn something new everyday, or not...

I am fully aware of this, and I should of read the whole thread before making a reply.

1) this is not the rebanding thread.

It wasent suppost to be, it was ment to set an example and a poor one at that...

In one other post somewhere here you asked about scanning on planes and your stories..
I have never done it nore will I want too.. I hate flying so the last thing I would want to hear is some easily fixed problem that sounds like a big deal over the radio..

With that being said, I wont post any more in this thread.. As I stated it was ment as an EXAMPLE ONLY, to previous post in this thread ABOUT CELL PHONES!

Hello Friends:

I did scann in flight once,(PRO-66) long time ago before the 9/11.
I remember having some kind of trouble with one of the
flight atendant. It was something about that I was not aloud to
have the scanner on during take-of or landing. At the end
the captain of the aircraft came and asked to see the scanner
he take it to the others in the cockpit and returned the scanner
to me about ten minutes later saying it was ok because the
scanner could not transmit.;)

Radio signals inflight

Click >HERE< for an interesting article on RF interferance on aircraft.
I don't want to start the whole thing over again, I just thought it was interesting because it includes real life inflight testing.
