i may be here in the states but i would like to have ufo check 2 things out on his radio #1 make sure the attenuator is off. i've put mine on a few times by mistake more importantly, check his bnc connector. i own a pro-106 which is pretty much a psr 500 and my radio suddenly went deaf recently. i could only recieve my home city what i, as well as N1SQB discovered was that the solder joint at the bnc connector broke. the wire is extremely thin and broke again after we repaired it. N1SQB replaced the wire and resoldered the connections and my radio now runs better than new. just a couple of things he may want to check. good luck

You're in Ontario and you're telling me we have nothing to complain about? You must be in Ottawa.
I've been under the delusion then, that GRECOM's PSR 500 and 600 were able to pick up digital. I don't recall any firmware updates that will negate the current lack of sensitivity I'm apparently experiencing with both units which ,for no known reason, have gone down. I am aware of the P25 system as well and I am certainly impressed by your facility in describing its technical points. That said, the reality then is HRM police and the RCMP now rely on mental telepathy and cell phones to communicate, apparently bypassing P25 altogether.

Did you loose the programming that was in your scanner?

Come see me... I'll set up your programming again...

PM me

Even Provoice can be monitored with a commercial radio and a bit of programming.. nothing to worry about. Scanners are just that.. scanners They are a privlege it is not your right to listen to the police and it never will be. Even if your local PD goes ENC there is a ton of other more interesting things you can listen too.

I don't mean to be repetitive but just wanted to mention that the Halifax Regional Police have definitely NOT gone encrypted. I am listening to them just now completely normal P25. Either there was some kind of encryption test going on when UFOMAN was trying to listen or there is something not right with his scanners. Like others I am mystified!

I tested out my HP-1 and I have no issues... the ONLY issue I have is that the Military Police are encrypted... but this has been from day one of owning the HP
