Scanning multiple systems

I plan on taking a trip from New England to Colorado this year. I would like to be able to program all of the state police frequencies for the entire trip. (Like 6 states) Is this task to impractical to tackle? I have looked at the respective pages on this site for each state and there are hundreds of freqs listed. Do I have to load all of them? Any input would be appreciated. I have a PRO-96

Trunked or conventional? It could probably be done either way.

Conventional:

Just put them in on a one or two state/bank basis. (Or 3 or 4 - whatever it takes.)

Trunked:

You can put more than one trunked system in the same bank if they're separated by at least one conventional frequency. Again, 1, 2, 3 or ?? per bank.

Is this the best way? Not if you have a laptop with you, and can set up a few files so that you have one state, or even part of one state, per bank, and keep the data in more than one file if necessary, reloading the scanner for the next day's drive every night. But it can probably be done.

I would put them in separate banks if possible
that way you wont be scanning say,
