When I first got the 4/536 I had some old iPhone 4 screen protectors. I have had them on for years on both units. When I send them off to have the RTC replaced the units come back with them on the screen still. Since I got the sds100 Mon I decided to put a iPhone 4 screen protector on. Has any one else done that to your scanners or radios?

I did my sds100 2 days ago. I just used an unused screen protector designed for an old phone and cut it to size.

For all my portable radios, I just use any smart phone screen protector that I have lying around, and cut it to size with an xacto knife. If I don't have any extras lying around then I will find something on Amazon or eBay. You can get multipacks for around $1 that will last for years.

I just ordered custom screen protectors from a company called BestSkinsEver.com. Someone recommended them on a Facebook forum.

I measured the dimensions of the displays on my SDS100 and BCD436HP and placed an order for them over the weekend.

Based on the tracking details, I should have them later today (Thursday).

I’ll follow up via this thread once I have them in hand to let you know if it was a worthwhile effort and will share the dimensions I provided once I’m able to confirm my measurements are accurate!

I received the custom screen protectors earlier today. I’m very impressed!

They are not the traditional sticky-backed screen protectors. Instead you install them with a solution of mild soapy water.

There are a couple of things I’m not 100% satisfied with that I want to clear up with their support team so I give you the most accurate measurements. I just opened a support case and should get a response back tomorrow.

You’ll see my concern in the screenshots for the BCD436HP. I want to see it’s possible to get better measurements for the corners.

In the meantime, here’s what they look like!

One point I forgot to make in my last post...the air bubbles in this type of screen protector will disappear over the course of a few days as the solution dries.

I tried that approach first. The optical quality of the film was awful and unfortunately my hands shake a lot so I had a difficult time cutting it to fit in a manner in which I was happy with.

The custom cut film is of much higher quality optically and fits perfectly.

I personally prefer the matte finish due to it being less reflective.

Hi Jeff,
Once you have everything worked out, can you post the dimensions for each unit here? Thanks!

Is it not recessed enough to protect it? I know on the 436 it was not - it was at the surface and even 'rounded' outward slightly - but the SDS100 looks like it's recessed and would be protected.

The SDS100 screen is very slightly recessed, maybe 1-2 tenths of a millimeter. It's also a rectangle, unlike the 436, which is a trapezoid with the corners chopped and rounded.

Attached is the order confirmation for the screen protectors I purchased for my BCD436HP and SDS100.

I ordered them with the matte finish but you can get glossy as well.

The link to place the order is:

I ordered an Invisible Shield screen protector from Ebay for an old smartphone (Samsung Exhilarate) that is no longer made. It was a whopping $2. I used a new razor blade to trim the sides and it looks great.
