I just got a Nooelec v5 today, and got it all hooked up and running. I'm only using it for CC monitoring like I was with Pro96com, but now I can free up that scanner to do scan something else and not have to be used to be logging RIDs etc.

I got it perfect essentially. RN it's mid 40s to upper 30s RSSI, 100 green bar, a window of 2 down to 1 and up to 3 at points, got the warp working at 0.69, seems be a sweet spot for this setup.

Is the only way u can see RID aliases is when u monitor the VCs if they are talking? Because I haven't seen nothing but the RID numbers on the screen, no aliases. Just parked on the CC.

Is there like a manual pdf, showing everything for every button so I know what everything is and does?.. sorry if this has been asked 10000 times.

Im sure I'll think of more questions, if you guys have any tips or anything it wud appreciated since this is my first several hours playing with it. This is so fun I want to get a desktop or possibly a good laptop, whatever is cheaper so I can actually use it to decode, like get DSD+ and use that.

RN this laptop I ended up with is so cheap and junk about all it can do is what I do was use it for which is, pro96com, and downloading FW updates and changing stuff in my scanners. So now trying unitrunker is pretty cool and fun to experience and learn and makes me want to buy more dongles and get a new of to run them and the programs.

Yes and not all systems do aliases. Newton is a phase 2 system. If its voice channels are TDMA, Unitrunker might not decode them.

You could give DSDPlus a try.

Ya I thought it might be not able to decode the aliases (if they are sent OTA) being it's using TDMA VCs and this can't decode that.

When I can get a new PC or better PC I'm gonna get more SDRs and actually listen to systems not just decode CC data like I am now. I'm not sure and from what I've read I don't think this cheap laptop can handle DSD+, it don't even have a HD it has them, it's essentially a SD card for a HD. Has 4gb RAM, it's a turd.

I also wondered if you cud send the data from the SDR to Pro96com if I wanted. I haven't found much to know if this is even possible. I like unitrunker and am gonna continue to use it, but just got me curious and I like to mess with stuff, I got nothing else better to do.

If I put in a VC frequency and monitor that instead of the CC wud it show me the Aliases if they are being sent? And wud that mess up all the data and everything I've gathered over the last 20 hours by stopping monitoring the CC and just monitoring a VC. Or maybe I can monitor all VCs simultaneously, idk how all this works yet.

Is there better settings to use? Or is that just pretty much play with it and see what works best like I did with the "warp" setting? Is there other settings because it's essentially all default besides the warp setting.

Is it possible to get the "window" to 0 from 1 or 2? Like a perfect decode?

What I do love is not having to make sure I'm paying attention to the laptop at 3am every morning to change the scanner to the other CC because the system rotates the 2 primary CCs daily at 3am local time. This just changes to the other CC when the system changes like my scanners. So that is so great. I really love this SDR stuff, I might have caught the bug, wish I had lots of money, id have a new PC and many more dongles.

Aliases are only sent on the VCs, and as mentioned give DSDPlus a try... it's pretty light on the resources. It'll decode both Harris and Moto aliases (if present) on Phase 1 and 2 systems, including encrypted talkgroups (UT ignores anything encrypted).
Maybe I will give DSD a try cause I know it will work for what I wanted to monitor the CC to get more data than pro96com cud, get OTA aliases etc, just more data that was my goal, I didn't really care about listening at this point, only cause I really don't think this laptop can handle doing everything DSD can do and all that.

The bottom line was i read unitrunker was very light so I figured I cud use it to monitor the the CC like I did with Pro96com and try to get OTA aliases (this was the main goal) I didn't realize that those only come thru the VC. From what I read I didn't think this laptop cud do SDR Trunk or DSD to get those aliases, so I chose UT to use. This is a several year old HP stream 15, it's turd as u can get.

Im trying to find the equivalent of the packet dump from pro96com in UT and where I can see a list of affiliations like on pro96com, I just can't seem to find it.

If anyone has any info on the questions I ask in here feel free to reply, cause there's a lot I don't understand at this point. And I'd like to know all the tips and tricks and where the stuff that was in pro96com can be found or other things that it has that pro96com don't.

Hi to I_AM_Infinite,

I can see in your screenshot that your settings are very good and I do not see any encrypted channel grants.
No you can not send data from an SDR to Pro96com.
I agree with those who recommended DSDPlus. You could also try SDRTrunk or DSD-FME.
It appears that Unitrunker will not be getting updated for P25P2 voice and data (alias) decoding.

Cheers

Hi to I_AM_Infinite,

Ok, have a look at your screenshot and you will see: Decode, Manual, Chase, Dwell and bellow MTP1327 is Logging=No. Click on No and select Yes to activate Logging.
After a couple of minutes click on Yes and select No to stop Logging. Warning, logging for extended periods will soon fill your small SSD and cause a crash to occur.
Now click on the yellow folder next to the Home in the upper left corner to open the location of the logging file. Open this file to see the control channel dump. You can move or delete this file and others in this folder as required to save space on your SSD.
Now at the top of this window click on Roaming to open that window. This is the location for everything that is Unitrunker.
Now it's time to return to the Options window and look for Archive and beneath it is Auto Save=True, Grace=20.0, Keep=Forever. Those are my settings.
I had a PC similar to yours and it regularly crashed when I asked too much of it.
I can see what you are up against: Is the HP Stream Laptop Still Worth It in 2025?| Blog

Ya it's a turd PC, but does the basics like programming my scanners but asking to much of it don't take much....I want to try DSD but I'm afraid it will crash it. UT is cool though, I like it, still learning so Thanks again for the info and reply.

Eventually I will need better because my goal was the OTA aliases but that's will be for another time at least for now I don't have to manually change the CC on the scanner and it can just do its thing without me and it freed up my pro197, so I'm happy.

Anymore pointers if you can think of any is greatly appreciated

Hi to I_AM_Infinite,

With all your programs running on your PC go to the search feature and type in: Resource Monitor, then select and open that app. You will then see the programs utilizing the greatest resources and how much resources are still available for use.
I am running both Unitrunker and Pro96com simultaneously and the cooling fan on my new HP Envy laptop PC does not run at all.
I will stop both of these programs and just start running DSDPlus and the cooling fan will start and run continuously until I stop the program.
Resource Monitor shows DSDPlus can use twice as much CPU as Unitrunker.
Several years ago I tried to run HDSDR on an old laptop, Resource Monitor showed 98% CPU use just before the the crash occurred. You know you PC is in trouble when the mouse pad and touch screen stop responding.

Cheers.

Is there a way to make the time also show the seconds? Like 6:27:45 AM etc not just 6:27 AM? Sometimes there's new RIDs so I like to match the scanner recording to the RID on UT so I can possibly identify the RID.

It's a lil harder without exact times to find the exact transmissions and match them to the RID. I can still do it but it's just more effort and if it can be simpler then why not.

Is there no terse if your doing CC only cause I don't see it? I see the calls that ur on, but mines different. Mine shows and I realize I removed some but "joins, group, user, data, secure, pages, patches, denials, hide, scroll".

Think that's the latest (and final) stable release. The terse seems to have been added to the 2.2 preview releases.

Not positive but there may have been a process to those upgrading from 2.1 to 2.2 versions or something to that affect. In any event, if you choose to upgrade, make sure you back everything up beforehand.

UT is spamming, or the CC is spamming inhibit constantly for 2 radio IDs. Might be testing the inhibit command on these 2 radios, it's 5610596 and xxxxx97. Hopefully it don't last forever, I turned it off it got annoying and I don't want space wasted on that.
