Heres the follow up straight from Uniden replaced sd card an reprogramed scanner that was corrupted from the sd card. How does this happen when laptop is only used to update DB from Sentinel?

I did myself two Big Favors Bought Quality Card and called talked with Uniden Tech. They have me sending in for repair an say NO BODY on here should have suggested sd card as the issue. He repeating in our conversation they "UNiden" have no tech support why someone "EXPERT" on here would get that idea theres a reason it locked up.
Not sure why someone from Uniden would suggest that; SD card failure is a well-known issue.

SD cards do fail sometimes. If it was an original card from Uniden, those were purchased in bulk, cheap. The fail rate is probably a bit higher with cheap cards, as compared to a better quality card like SanDisk.

Not sure I understand your question. If you mean how does the card get corrupted - could be any number of factors. If you mean why did Uniden reprogram the scanner when they replaced the SD card - any favorites also live on the SD card alongside the master database.

The SD Card Scanners read and write to the SD Cards. SD Cards have read write cycles. Do you use replay on your x36 or SDS Scanner if so that uses the SD Card. Anything interrupts the writing the SD Card can become corrupted. The 1st thing you were told to do was replace the SD Card but you thought it was best to ask the person that wants over $100 and you paid over $100 for a $10 SD Card.

This has been a solid piece of well proven advice over and over again since the release of the first Home Patrol scanner 16 years ago....

Whenever any of the SD card scanners start doing anything unexpected and/or strange that would seem to be totally unrelated, always suspect the SD card first. It's one of the easiest causes to rule out, and far more often than not it's been found to be the cause. Maybe it won't be the cause in your case, but it's a very important starting point to at least take a quick minute and rule it out.

Data cards have a life span.

As to SD cards not being the issue I had frequent SD Card read errors on the 536HP I had in my car. For no apparent reason the card would fail on boot up. To the point where I kept a spare programmed card in my truck. The fix was as others have mentioned, reformat the card and re load the data.

Uniden may decided to replace the card holder or they may run all of their diagnostics and not be able to replicate the problem.

Could be? But the wonky card has been working great 5+ years.

I would say it was most likely the power down of the scanner that created the trashed file structure on the SD card so that it could not boot properly the next time as it couldn't read the file that saves the settings you have done prior to power down. At power down it writes files to the SD card and any issues with the 12V power, maybe connected to the ignition not allowing the scanner to do a proper full power down write or perhaps condensation on its connectors due to varying temperatures in either climat or from using AC that could cause a bad write.

I recommend to annually clean the connectors on all SD cards using rubbing alcohol or similar to remove any oily films on them.
