SDR# SDR# and RTL-SDR stop working after period of time

I've trying to use SDR# (1.0.0.1855) and an RTL-SDR to record a conventional frequency in my area. Typically, I login into the system with Remote Desktop. Everything runs find for a while. Sometime after disconnecting (NOT logging out), SDR# seems to "lose connection" to the RTL-SDR. SDR# app still responds, "start" button is still in the playing position, but nothing shows up on the waterfall and no signal comes through. Stopping and restarting in SDR# resets as expected.

I've double checked the power settings and the system does not goto sleep. Also verified the power settings for USB are not set to automatically power down.

Thoughts?

Thanks,
-Matt

The exact same thing happens to me as well, since I started using the RTL-SDR with SDR# years ago. I did some troubleshooting with RTL-SDR Blog support, even tried another RTL-SDR USB stick, but it didn’t solve it. I even did a clean Windows build, tried replacing the power supply, but nothing fixed it. Bought an Airspy R2 and use that primarily as it doesn’t quit on me. 🤷🏻‍♂️

The same thing happens to me. I'm just getting my feet wet in the SDR world, so I figured it was something on my end. The dongle stops responding especially if I am free-tuning, sliding the frequency bar. Sometimes if I hit stop then play again it resumes, sometimes I have to restart SDR#. I guess at least I know it's not just me. I am using the Nooelec dongle (2 of them).

Probably spurious emissions. Yep, definitely spurious emissions.

If you are experiencing these type of issues I would try this

Airspy is great, but they have stated on numerous occasions that they are not concerned with sdr#'s functionality with other than thier hardware.

I had stopped using sdr# for a long while,
Once I went with keenerd's fix/dll replacement it solved these same issues mentioned above with rtl-sdr blogs & nooelec rtl-sdr's letting me get back to enjoying the plugins Wraith shares

UPDATE to my random lockups with SDR# and Nooelec: I installed SDR++ this morning and have been running trouble free for hours now. No lockups, no restarts...just smooth operation. Thus, I am abandoning my SDR# and going with SDR++ for my SDR needs for the time being. Might be something for OP Matt to try.
