Let's say I placed an SDR somewhere within city limits for Boston. Would I be easily be able to pick up every district from wherever I placed my radio? Or would I need multiple radios carefully placed near towers to get every district?

All depends on your antenna and building location/specs, but generally any scanner in/around the City of Boston would hear Ch.01 thru Ch.06 easily, but only you will know based on instalation.

Super helpful. Thanks! One other question: How do you guys keep track of timeline for transition to CoMIRS? One day we just notice traffic doesn't come over the old channels? Or BPD announces this somewhere?

two different systems/questions.

Unless an insider who works for BPD shares when they will turn on P25 we will all find out when the radios heard nothing for those running DPL - Boston is not going to a trunked system, only implementing P25 over their existing conventional channels

AS to ComIRS - I'm sure those monitoring will hear the TECH's testing as the sites begin being built out, but due to COVID, Supply chain and the need to build out new sites, it will be (IMHO) awhile for Center, Eastern and Cape/Islands (2025-2026 would be my hobby guess)

It will happen hopefully not too soon. Out here in Metro West Framingham DPW and Water dept
went P25a couple of years ago. Why I dont know the DPW was so cool to monitor in the winter
they go all out for snow removal. Thankfully the Police and Fire are still analog non P25.
Still 90% out here are still not P25 or the big E. (Sudbury Police are Encrypted.) again why a small town like this when E but the fire dept is still open. Just my rant lol

I'm lazy so I just come here and let everyone else tell me 🙃

I also entered the new BPD system into 2 of my radios. It's in the database. Monitor it and you'll notice if it comes alive. At least that's the hope

The new Boston Core has been active for sometime, but Boston PD will remain conventional and move to P25, Boston PD is NOT moving to a Trunk,
