Are there any SDR based HT's transceivers available yet on the market? Not talking about a cobbled together raspberry pi / DIY type but a polished consumer ready out of the box solution. SDR is making its way into base station units like Yaesu FT-DX101D as well as HT and mobile scanners like the Uniden SDS100/200. Have any of the major manufacturers announced plans to bring a handheld dual/tri/quad band SDR based HT to market in 2019? I'm on the fence about buying a new HT but would be kicking myself if this was just around the corner. Thank you in advance for any knowledge anyone is willing to share.

Yes, I believe the Racal MSHR was an SDR from the early 1990s and the Racal/Thales PRC-148 MBITR is an SDR. The MSHR was 136 to 174MHz and the MBITR is 30 to 512MHz continuous. There are many others that skip my brain at the moment.

I think OP was referring to ham radio HT’s.

Yes, I'm hoping for a new handheld unit from one of the major manufactures specifically designed for amateur radio. I've played around with the RTL-SDRs as well as my SDS100 from Uniden. I like the future proofing/firmware flexibility you get from SDR, especially if they open it up for serial port commands or some kind of USB interface. I know you can make them in various ways with Rasberry Pi, or something like a HackRF Portapack ( PortaPack for HackRF One, Kit ) or an android tablet. I'm looking for an out of the box, weatherized dual band SDR based HT.

I know they are coming to market eventually, how long is the question. Wondering if anyone has read about any upcoming releases or heard any rumors?
