Hello all ,

I have tried everything on the web that I can find to guide me through setting up SDR harp on windows xp and it just will not install.

When I click on the install bat.exe file it flashes a dos window for a split second and then nothing.
( and yes I have extracted the files to a folder on my HD ) I had it working on windows 8.1 with out issues but I just got a desktop that I would like to dedicate for the use of sdr . Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Dan

PS: I did do a search and turned up nothing on my topic

Get into a command screen and cd to the dir. it was installed in. Execute it from there, well keeping the command windows open. See what that does. Can't remember if I have it on xp or not but 7 and 8 yes.

I have it installed on several XP machines, so it can work. Maybe you have to run it as an administrator? Also, you ARE unzipping the file before running it, right?

The XP instructions on the SDR# website should work.

Dan,

Probably need to do it with admin privs as Voyager said. Just do a start/programs/accessories, right-click on Command Prompt and Run As Aministrator.

Then CD to your sdr-install directory and run install.bat

As a network/systems administrator, please, do us a favor and keep your XP machine away from the internet. It's fine offline for many purposes, but should never be put online, no matter what firewall/anti-virus you have behind it.

An infected XP machine doing a DDoS is just as bad as someone with a 5KW amp QRM'ing everywhere. That's all :)

I call Shenanigans on the anti-XP rant above.

Back on topic. If you go to the SDRSharp.org download link, you should get a self-extracting self-executing install script that downloads, extracts and installs the latest versions of all necessary components onto your hard drive. You must then use Zadig_xp.exe (which the script also obtains for you) to associate the correct driver with your SDR dongle(s).

Unless your computer was set up in a networked office environment in paranoid mode, you do not need special privileges to download or run the file.

Yes ,

even tried downloading windows redist 3.5 again since it was a fresh install and nothing. But it works just fine on my windows 7 and windows 8.1 machines ( which is a surprise )

I maybe doing something wrong but its time to upgrade this desktop anyhow.

Thanks again all,

Dan
