I am new to SDR and I'm having trouble with this RTL SDR module I got on ebay: 100KHz 1 7GHz Full Band UV HF Rtl SDR Upconverter USB Tuner Receiver 2832U R820T | eBay

I set sample rate 2.048 MSPS
I set mode to Direct sampling (Q branch) and RTL AGC

The problem is that wherever I tune I just see a bunch of random noise and some silent carriers. I tuned through the whole range of the device and nothing really changes. There is always this one large unmodulated carrier right in the center of the display. What is going on? Did I not configure the device correctly or is it just broken?????

Please help. I'd like to get this returned to the ebay seller soon if it is defective.

Here is a picture of what the spectrum looks like EVERYWHERE:

Have you tried checking 'Correct IQ'? Also, I had to use a lower sample rate and disable RTL AGC.

Realy it is just JUNK

HI!

I have the earlier version of that RTLSDR. It and yours does not have any filters or a preamp. It is low end(in my mind) junk. I was very disappointed when I received mine from China. I complained to the people I purchased it from and after a lot of going back and forth they refunded me 65% of my money back. I use the RTLSDR but I do not expect or get much from it. I have a good antenna, it brings in all the interference out there. I plan on getting a better real radio for HF. You may want to do the same.

I had to set the sampling mode to Quadrature instead of Direct sampling Q branch. There is still a lot of noise, but at least it is usable now. I haven't tested HF yet.
