Battery was low on the sds 100 while in my truck, plugged it in to charge, while on, and I got a message on the screen saying, low USB bus voltage. I’ve charged my scanner in my truck before and never seen this . Anybody know ?

What month is it?
Did you start the truck while it was plugged in?
Do anything else to drop the voltage?

If no, is both the plug and receptacle clean and free from any debris or corrosion?

It can be a bit finicky when it comes to the proper voltage.

Are you using the 12v outlets or the USB port that connects to the console?

I have had to send in a 100 to Uniden to replace a bent USB pin.
Maybe get out the magnifiers and look real close.

Oh, this is assuming that the cord being used is the stock Uniden, or a cord with AWG24 power wires?

I use the stock cord that came with it

Ok. Just once. Now it’s time to check to see if the battery that was in the radio at the time it happened plays ok after it’s charged up. If it does, then just keep an eye on it. You may try charging the battery by another USB source just to be sure it’s not a battery problem.

It seems everyone got absorbed in the charging cord discussion (it happens).

Not sure if this has anything to do with it, but I went into the settings, and enabled the charge while on, feature.

Way to bury the leade....
Of course it has something to do with things.

Anytime the radio throws a low voltage error, this setting reverts to off. You have to manually turn it back on every time you get the error. If this setting is off, like it says, the radio will only charge while off and it will not charge when on.

Make sure your cable is heavy enough to support charging and scanning. This is especially true if the battery is low and needs more current.

What? A suggestion; Since I’ve never seen a concern about the size of a USB charging/programming cable when used to charge a battery, it would be nice if you specified the gauge wire, shielded or not sheileded, etc. you recommend instead of simply stating “Make sure your cable is heavy enough…” what do you think we are charging here, a 12 volt lead acid auto battery?

OK, here it is - again......
Look for AWG24 in the product description for the cable.
This wire gauge (AWG) is sufficiently heavy to run/charge the SDS100.

I get this on occasion for no apparent reason (while using the factory cable). I just unplug the cord from the radio, turn the 'charge while on' setting back on and plug it back in. I'm guessing drifts out of tolerance, the radio gets upset. Nothing to get too freaked out about.
