Zip Scanners -- If I am not mistaken, they are advertising no sales tax (meaning they pay or absorb it), which I know in my state can translate to about a $50 savings -- a nice difference in the final price. Does anyone know if others are doing that as well?

No sales tax is kind of gimmicky. Most states have an income tax, and most of those states require you to report unpaid use (a.k.a. sales) tax when you file.

I cannot speak for others but Scanner Master only charges sales tax in Massachusetts where the main office is. All other states and countries do not pay sales tax.

Depends if they have a "presence" in other states. Many of the larger companies have warehouses in almost every state now, so most of the time they are collecting sales tax. That's an example of a problem that sorted itself out and put to bed the whole idea of an internet sales tax that kept popping up every few years about 10-15 years ago when the shift to online shopping began in earnest. I shop at Scanner Master as well, but since my main residence is in CT, I have to report the unpaid sales tax and pay it every April 15th. States are beginning to crackdown too as their revenue declines - especially the really really broke states like mine that are literally turning over couch cushions for loose change to pay the bills. Customers of newegg for example got hit with owing sales tax back to 2014 in various states.

FYI, regarding state sales tax with an online purchase, the U S Supreme Court took a case dealing with that issue this term.

Everyone could be paying their state taxes depending on the Court's ruling to be announced by the end of this month

Stay tuned!

Regarding the issue of paying sales tax on the purchase of your new SDS100, here is the information I dug up from the 7 dealers I listed in my compiled list in post #84 in this thread (http://forums.radioreference.com/uniden-prospective-owners/371120-sds-100-pricing-5.html#post2939788). Just remember that just because it is not collected by the retailer does not mean you are not legally obligated to pay it in your home state as has already been mentioned above in this thread. YMMV

Universal Radio: Sales tax charged for deliveries to Ohio.

Scanner Master: Sales tax charged for deliveries to Massachusetts.

Zip Scanners: No sales tax is charged anywhere. They are based in Minnesota and absorb the sales tax for deliveries to Minnesota.

Bearcat Warehouse: Sales tax charged for deliveries to Maryland.

The Ham Station: I could not find any information on their website regarding charging or not charging sales tax. They are based in Indiana so they MAY charge sales tax for deliveries to Indiana. Check with them directly for clarification.

Radar Busters: Sales tax charged for deliveries to Arizona.

Ham Radio Outlet: Sales tax charged for deliveries to Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Texas and Virginia.

Seems like an appropriate thread, so I'll ask here..........

Anybody know of an online retailer for the SDS100 that will take your payment now, instead of waiting till it ships?

I actually DO need them to take my money when the purchase is made.

Thanks in advance!

Maybe if you pay by check. Credit cards have rules about when they can be charged, and retailers are supposed to follow those rules in order to maintain their access to the credit card processing networks.

Might not be an option for you, but, HamStation will take the payment right away if you use your credit card via PayPal. I used my credit card to make the purchase on Wednesday, and my card was actually run through on Thursday evening.

For those still looking for a vendor to purchase a new SDS100 you can add the Main Trading Company of Paris, Texas to your list of available choices. They are offering the SDS100 for $649.99 with FREE shipping included and they are also advertising financing "as low as $15.46/month" to purchase the SDS100. Sales tax is charged for deliveries to Texas.

Here's what it says on the Main Trading Company's SDS100 webpage (https://www.mtcradio.com/uniden-sds100-digital-police-scanner/):

"Will Have 50 Available at HamCom for Pick up June 8-9-10, Will start shipping the week of June 11"

Scannermaster will too. I used Paypal to check out and my card was charged shortly thereafter. I had no problem with that, although I do realize that sticks in some people's craw.

That would take forever! How much interest on that? Don't fall for it.

Thread cleaned up.

Gents, please keep this thread confined to posts on where to buy an SDS100 or what pricing you have found.

This thread could be a good source of information if we can keep it from straying off into CCR, royalties paid and political discussion.

Thanks.

Has anyone called any of these places to see if they will go lower? I know they are set at the MAP so they can't publicly display a lower price right now but...

You may see them start dropping prices when the supply is steady and the must-have-now has worn off.

While the price of the SDS100 seems to be fixed right now at $649.99 no matter where you purchase it, there are some smart things YOU can do to add value to your purchase.

1. Purchase from a dealer who is providing both FREE shipping and no sales tax charged to your state where it is being shipped to. There is no sense paying an extra $15 to $20+ for shipping when you don't have to. The same applies to paying sales tax that you don't have to pay. Also note that while most dealers who are providing FREE shipping are providing ground shipping, Radar Busters is providing FREE USPS Priority Mail shipping which may be quicker/faster to your location compared to ground shipping.

2. Purchase using a credit card that has "Price Protection" or "Price Rewind" as I have already posted earlier in this thread. With that FREE protection from your credit card issuer you will be protected if the price of the SDS100 drops in the next 60-90 days (60 or 90 days is typical depending on the card issuer). Your credit card issuer will refund you the difference between what you paid now ($649.99) and the lower price you MAY find 60 or 90 days from now. Of course the price may not budge for the next 60-90 days so you have no way of knowing if this feature will be of benefit to you right now. It's still nice to know that you are protected from a price drop in the next 60-90 days and can have the difference refunded to you.

3. Purchase using a credit card that has FREE extended warranty coverage for your purchase. I have a Citi card that adds 2 years to the manufacturer's warranty so I would receive 1-year parts and labor from Uniden and an additional 2 years added to the back end of the manufacturer's warranty (3 years total). Some credit card issuers only add up to an additional 1-year warranty so YMMV depending on your specific credit card issuer. Uniden's flat-rate repair rate for out-of-warranty digital scanners is currently $89.95 ($79.95 plus $10 shipping in the USA) so this FREE extended warranty coverage through your credit card could be quite valuable to you in the future if you need to have your scanner repaired.

4. Avoid buying the ProVoice/DMR/NXDN upgrades from your selling dealer at the time of scanner purchase and paying a premium to do so. Purchasing the upgrades directly from Uniden will cost you $60 each while some of the dealers are charging $75 to $99.99 each for the same upgrades. If you need to purchase all 3 upgrades, you could end up paying an additional $45 to $120 compared to purchasing them directly from Uniden.

Use a credit card with cash back.

1% cash back = $6.50 savings

I think that's the route I'm going to go. Who knows what other fees/duty customs might slap us with if we order from the States.
