The new firmware update seems to have fixed the SmartZone simulcast with digital voice issues I was having. I was in lower Delaware all afternoon and had hardly any breakups / dropped transmissions. Still a lot of jumping off the control channel for housekeeping. Comparable in performance to the Unitrunker reference. The weather was much better today - clear rather than overcast, so no thermal or cloud layers close to the ground. Will continue to evaluate.

Which seems odd as the change log doesn't mention anything like that...

This firmware applies the following enhancements and bug fixes:
  • Fixed that disabled RECORDING when entering waterfall mode.
  • Fixed an issue where the Signal Bar and RSSI would not be displayed when a weak signal was received.

It does seem odd, but sometimes the are undocumented changes in software / firmware. Perhaps they corrected a flaw that they came across when fixing other things. Who knows. I'm still testing. Perhaps its the wx.
