Apple also breaks (and fails to address) a lot of stuff - they and their fanboys just don't admit it, lol. [Note that before the fur starts flying, that doesn't stop my company from using a *lot* of Apple hardware.]

I'm not sure if there is an official "V2" SDS200 - I'm thinking this is more (dishonest) retailer marketing hype. When ScannerMaster starts calling their stock "V2," I'd be more inclined to believe it.
Well I wrote to Scanner Master and told them I was VERY close to buying the SDS200 but wanted a FIRM GUARANTEE in case my radio arrives with the noted HUM and DISPLAY issues I either want FULL REFUND or a REPLACEMENT. I am sure Scanner Master is very aware of these problems and I am not blaming them, but the manufacturer / sloppy quality control. There is NO REASON, given the HIGH DEMAND for this radio that Uniden hasn't contacted the factory I guess it is in Vietnam and DEMAND better quality control and start remedying the situation so future scanners arriving in USA will be trouble free. And like I said in another post, there are MANY people on RR. If we ALL collectively complained to Uniden maybe they will wake up. I am sure if the sales of SDS200 radios DROPPED way down they would open their eyes and take action.

I am wondering if Uniden would consider extending out the warranty by the amount of downtime they may experience due to repair backlogs.
Thats UNACCEPTABLE for a $700 radio

It may take a while!

It is worth noting, that after everyone's help yesterday that I have the initial release of the scanner from last year. Has anyone here had these problems on v2. I see that some of the Retailers are making this ""v2" distinction in their nomenclature. If all these issues have been addressed in "v2" then it may be that your concerns have been addressed.

I would like to hear feedback from those with "v2" because I have experienced situations with other consumer electronics that the initiaal release had unforeseen problems whereas subsequent revisions or production runs have fixed those issues.

If you want a down and dirty example, I'll give you any Microsoft Windows product, where subsequent updates have fixed (and broken) many features and functionality. It's our feedback (and *****ing) that gets them to take it seriously. I could tell you my Microsoft Enterprise Support stories - and they are much more disturbing than any Uniden woes - but that's out of scope and focus.

I have to figure out how to host a video I took of my SDS200 display this morning. It started off fine, but 2 hours in and the screen was barely readable. The audio, however, was stellar!
From what I read years ago, for what its worth, those occasional "patches" or "service packs" for Windows were just refinements of their OS's screw-ups cause of BUGS because management would hurry up and rush the shipment of a new OS, like Windows 98 going into Win2000 for example. The executives would get a big bonus for getting the OS out on the market quickly. Leaving out more time for testing the product. And if you see the number of lines of code in a Windows operating system, mishaps are guaranteed to crop up from not fully testing something ALREADY BLOATED with unnecessary junk. Take Linux for example. I have been using it for years and they are constantly updating the distributions. In the rare chance you get a buggy distro, Like one version of Mint Linux 19.....had VERY slow start up.....it normally gets addressed in a reasonable amount of time.

Isn't "V2" the only difference that the metal mitigation part have alredy been installed for you?

I have not seen any official documentation stating that. And you would think that a high volume reseller like ScannerMaster would only be selling new stock that has the part (having exhausted their old stock) - yet they don't advertise "V2." I think it's a ploy by some retailers to take advantage of some people's fear.

Anyway. Here's my clip of the screen flicker. It was taken within the past few hours. Can anyone who has had this problem confirm that this is what you have seen?

That is exactly how my display looked after just two weeks of use. I returned it to Amazon for a full refund. I washed my hands of the SDS series, at least for now. Maybe things will improve someday for the rest of us who don't seem to be blessed with good units.

One of mine has been running 24/7 for at least a year; the other is used when I'm in the vehicle. Neither have had any problems. I guess some people are just unlucky.
