Just remember that I already bought two from different companies and completely had the same issues. All of these radios most likely have the same issues. Some people just do not care or their ears can't hear anything. If you send it back and buy another one you will have the same issues. Save your self the headache.
my hum is slight, room has to be super quiet OR you sitting right on it. i have so many wind up clocks ticking away or chiming, you cant hear it. lol. so, the answer may be to get some windup wall clocks. the scanner performs great otherwise. i am super super please with the receive. i have many many scanners to compare and i think the receive is about the best. i am now listening to norfolk across the Chesapeake bay, bright and clear. uniden will eventually figure it out and those who want can send their and get i fixed i guess.

where did you get yours? any restocking fee or shipping fee with the return. got mine at HRO.

I got mine from Bearcat warehouse, they said no restocking fee unless it was missing parts, They told me they DID NOT provide return shipping labels, so took it to UPS, got it insured for the value of the scanner, i had someone take it to the UPS dealer for me, just told them what i wanted, got charged $48.xx...i have no idea why it was so much. I wasn’t to happy with Bearcat warehouse for giving me a label, like i told them, I’m not returning it just for no reason, its for the problems mentioned here, that i was not happy with after paying $700, when i had a HP-2, that did just as good without any issues. I had high hopes for this 200, cause i love my 100.

i think they all have some bs when you return them. i think we are out $50 or so no matter how you cut it if you send it back. unless mine gets louder, i will keep it. so, i am going to run her for 10 days. at least when i am here. great scanner otherwise.

Since day one I’ve had the sds200 plugged into a grounded wall plug . I’m telling you zero noise external source output or the internal speaker

My keypad and buttons under display, where so dim i couldn’t see them in pitch black, although, someone else that looked at it and saw them but said they where VERY dim. Also, the hum, speaker noise was loud enough on mine with it next to me on my nightstand, where i could hear it with the Tv on, etc. I’d rather have my 700 back than not be 100% happy with it or deal with it. I’ll find another scanner.

i just tried mine on different outlets, in fact, the hum was louder in the kitchen bec it is quieter in there. so, outlet has no affect on the hum.

Stay away from buying stuff at HRO for these reasons. Either buy from Amazon or from a place where you do not have a return hassle or get charged re-stocking fee's. This is complete crap.

Yea and hro charges sales tax I saved $50 by canceling and getting from bearcat warehouse. If you read the fine print the walwart provided is 13.8 volts not 12v as most are its probably not a high quailty walwart either if I still had a scope I would check for ac ripple and noise.

A variable that has not been checked yet that can cause a “Hum” is improper outlet wiring in your house. Might consider trying one of those colored three light plug in testers in to your house outlets to see if they are properly grounded or not.

Just a thought.

I just ruled this out as an issue by connecting the scanner to a LiFePO4 battery. Unfortunately, the hum is still present. Here’s hoping that the eBay seller I purchased from doesn’t give me huge headaches with an exchange. Aside from the noise, I really do like this unit.

I get speaker vibration or rattle sound at certain voice frequencies or peaks when someone talks. Some voices are worse at making it happen than others, usually lower toned, louder voices do it. Volume does not have to be set all that high (halfway or so) but the higher it is the more frequent it happens. It's not related to the hum/CPU noise that's the main topic in this thread, which I do have btw.
I am also not talking about overdrive distortion, which can happen some at full volume and a loud talker.
I have not explored it any further as to cause, other than to suspect it's a physical/speaker issue. Like something slightly loose at/near the speaker that vibrates or resonates at just the right tone/frequency or just a bad speaker. I am refering to the internal speaker.
Anyone else notice this?
Thanks

That sounds like a defective speaker - my audio is absolutely clear. Separate issue from the hum some are experiencing.

I’ve got the “hum” and “clicking” when the display changes what it’s doing. No external speaker. When I use one it’s the same thing. It’s not amplified, I’ve tried other outlets and made several videos that I’ve shared with a friend who has a 200 which does not exhibit this issue. Front headphone jack sounds good. If I can get one from someone that will check it before they send it I’ll entertain another one as it works well, this one is going back.

I wonder how soon we will see the Recall for units with this Audio defect?

I have to use an inline volume control on an extension 3.5mm cable to be able to turn down its volume until I cannot hear any hiss or hum and then adjust the scanners volume to adjust for the sound loss. The same goes for active speakers, you adjust the volume on the speaker until you hear no hiss or hum and then adjust the scanners volume.

This seems to be the best fix unless Uniden does a recall.

best fix, or keep sending them back until you luck out and get a good one. mine has the slight hum issue, u can hear in a very quiet room. part of me says dont worry about it, the other says, this is a $700 scanner and you should not have to settle. i have tried all other outlets in the house, nothing gets rid of the slight hum.

the prob with getting anyone to check it is that they have to take it out of the box and turn it onj. i dont think they need to load or do anything, just turn it on and listen. would anyone do that for you at any of these places we order from? doubtful.

Yet once again the minute Uniden announces a release everyone is pre-ordering site unseen and telling them to "take my money". Well, they did.

This is the true definition of insanity. Pre-order site unseen buyers should not be complaining as Uniden has done this before and it has become routine.

I bought an SDS200 after release, but I bought from a vendor that will take it back for 100% refund for any reason, let alone a defect like this. I risked the return shipping cost at worse. It's the luck of the draw and I received a good unit. No noise. Everything seems to be fine and this is a very good radio otherwise.

As long as it seems Uniden is the only game in town, and many willfully step up to be beta testers at $700 a pop, this will continue. There is no doubt the manufacturing process in VIETNAM is haphazard, and the quality control horrific at best.

Take my money indeed.....
