Not an acceptable answer. Kinda like saying the upward facing lan port is acceptable when Uniden could just as easily have put in a downward facing one with greater usability for the consumer.

This guy saying that this noise is normal most likely has a vested interest with Uniden. This noise is not normal.

IF i use the rear EXT speaker jack for the headphones, definite hum and too loud to use headphones. is there a diff between these two jacks besides one is front and one is rear?

It's probably ten times louder audio from the speaker out jack and you'll hear all the background noise when using a headphone. It's usuable if you hear the same annoying noise from the loudspeaker and you want to try some fixes to lower it, like tightning grounding screws on the circuitboard or reseating screening plates.

good news for me, i dont hear the hum with headphones, not at all. NOT ON THE FRONT headphone jack. IF i use the rear EXT speaker jack for the headphones, definite hum and too loud to use headphones.

Yes the front headphone jack the output is much lower to the headphones since it comes from before the units audio amp.

I’ve been monitoring the sds200 now for 6 days . I haven’t detected even the slightest hum from the internal speaker . The external has zero hum. The headphone jack no hum . Lucky me right ? Any other that have dead silent sds200?

If it was just an issue with the internal speaker, I wouldn’t be so annoyed. Since the problem also exists and is more pronounced on the rear speaker jack, it’s maddening.

i dont blame you, send it back. i can sort of hear the hum on mine sitting close to it. i moved it closer to me on my desk. this thing really needs a remote control. then people wont hear the hum. lol. if mine gets any louder, i will return it.

So I bought this ground loop isolator on Amazon yesterday and had it delivered today. I absolutely do not hear anymore humming, hissing, or pulsing anymore. The only thing is that I have to turn up the volume knob more on the radio to get more of the sound results on the radio. I do get less speaker results but the noise is gone.

That is great news. But still should not have to spend $10 to fix the problem. Good luck and happy scanning.

you are running that out of the back ext speaker jack and it cuts out the hum 100%?

Pretty much. I am not noticing anything and I am in a very quiet room to test too just to make sure. I have to turn up the volume knob at least 3/4 of the way now to hear out of my MLS-100 speaker. But it seems to be working pretty good now. I am very surprised.

Yes and I am running it out the external speaker jack on the back of the radio.

it seems like a fix if you want to use an ext speaker, but for $700 i am sending mine back if the hum gets any louder. why settle, there are quiet ones out there, luck of the draw

Received my SDS200 today and my gosh the noise coming from the internal and external speaker is very annoying. What a disappointment.
I think I'll have this on ebay by the weekend.
have you tried hooking it up to 12 volts to see if hum goes away
mine did as well as a few others in other threads

may be the walwart

could it be that simple? something wrong with some of the walarts? i dont think that would explain why some have a loud hum and others more quiet like mine.

Just remember that I already bought two from different companies and completely had the same issues. All of these radios most likely have the same issues. Some people just do not care or their ears can't hear anything. If you send it back and buy another one you will have the same issues. Save your self the headache.
