So now that I've decided to go with the sts200 for my base station to replace my 996t couple more questions what would you folks recommend as far as the type of cabling connect to an outside antenna and what type of outside antenna would be the best to buy.

Are you positive you need an outdoor antenna? Where I live I really don't. I threw up a Diamond Discone and for my trouble I got analog from a police station that is 35 to 40 miles away that I don't really care if I receive or not. I can almost just barely get it with an internal antenna (Remtronix 820).

Outside antennas are almost always better. A discone is almost always the best bet but you may not need one depending on how close you are to what systems you want to monitor.

I'd try it out on the attached antenna.

I have a Discone antenna on the roof but I use it for a different scanner. The SDS200 does fine on the attached antenna.
