Here in Cuyahoga County Ohio there is just one P25 system that I see Private Calls. It's the Parma system. Typically it is used by supervisors to talk directly to a specific person.

On both my BCD436HP & SDS100 the callers UID shows on the first line of the TG/Channel area. The recipients UID shows on the second line.

You would have to be in ID Search mode to pick them up, yes? My understanding is ID Scan would only stop on known talkgroups?

Nope...set up a talk group, label it as Private Call or whatever your system calls it, ID is i0 and go back to ID Scan. It will pick it up when they go and use it.

Try to always run in ID search mode and just avoid the TGs you do not want to listen to. You will get private calls and any special TGs and new TGs being commisioned in the system. If everybody run scan mode there would be no one who knew when non listed TGs goes active and report an update to the RR dabase.

In a larger statewide system with many users, this is not the optimum way for many of us. The site I monitor has many users and I'd be sending the scanner back to Uniden to repair the lock out button. If you know the few talk groups you'd like to listen to, this method will work. If it's quiet, put it in ID search to see what you can catch.

it makes it easy to sort any radio system for quick on / off monitoring.
