Hi all & Joe B.

I have a SDS100 and a BCD536HP, I run both through ProScan. The SDS100 In Proscan runs for a bit (10 min to 1 hour or so) and just stops, blank screen. The BCD536HP will run a lot longer, but It will just stop running in ProScan, blank screen. Bob A. attributes it to the driver that Uniden supply's for their radios. Joe B. are you aware of this? If so, is it being looked in to? I will get the notice "Port being used by another incidence". When in fact it is not. I have to pull the USB cable and plug it back in and I have a 50/50 chance of it running. Some of the time I have to turn off the scanner and turn it back on to get it to restart. This is the case on both of my laptops. I do believe Bob A. has the expertise to know how to figure out something like this out. I trust in his judgment in this case. Very frustrating. Maybe Bob A. and Joe B. can work together on this? I just hope for a fix. Not trying to make waves. Love the SDS100, BCD536HP and ProScan, just want them to get along better.

This is the case on both of my laptops.
There's a classic problem with ports going to "sleep". It's a windows function to save battery in laptops but can even affect desktop computers. Go into your device manager and look at the detail tab of the port and you'll probably see something like "Allow port to go to sleep mode". Make sure that you do not allow that.

Ubbe, thanks for the reply. I have gone into the advanced power settings and turned off all of the power shutdown settings. Still the same problem. It is frustrating. I hope I did not step on Bob A,'s toes with this. If I did I apologize! But a resolution for this is needed. I have found that I am not the only one with this problem. I have a few scanner monitoring friends who have the same problem. One of them runs his SDS100 in a mobile, with ProScan running on his laptop, the same problem. He thinks it is just the way it is. I would like a fix. If the fix in Uniden's or ProScan's I do not care just lets get it fixed. We paid good money for the radios, we paid for the software. Both should play nice with each other. That is it. I get it, not everything is perfect.

I don't know about this problem and what it is but I do know about a Uniden Serial Port driver problem. I don't know if it's related or not.
The problem I'm referring to is if the computer reboots then the scanner loses communications with the driver and the scanner stops responding to protocol commands. The only way to restore the communications is power cycling the scanner or reinserting the USB cable. This affects the BCD996P2 and later models. A work around is using the rear DB-9 ports(on models with a rear DB-9 port).

Major questions I don't believe I ever received an answer on.
1. What is the exact message you are seeing. It's either "port in use by this instance" or "port in use by another program"?
2. Did you run that other program I mentioned last week or so to verify nothing else is using the same comm. port?
3. Did you try removing that other driver you thought could be a problem interfering with the USB level, based on the youtube videos you watched?

I also think it has to be the laptop, While not your exact configuration and besides running ProScan with multiple BCD996s & BCD396s - I have one windows 10 desktop running (5) BCD536HP & (4) BCD785D along with a Windows 10 Surfce with atleast (1) SDS100 & (1) SDS200 and don’t have the issue you are talking about. Please follow up and provide Bob the help he needs to assist you.

I have 2 instances of ProScan running on a desktop on 2 BCD996P2 with no issues. The only thing i need to do is power them off before i power cycle the computer, then when its back up i turn on the scanners. I will often go months with out power cycling the computer.
Once a week i close the apps, remove old recordings and restart them (apps not scanners).

I do not have a tab that says "Allow port to go to sleep mode"

One of the first things I will do on all of my computers is to turn the USB suspend "feature" off (Disabled). WARNING: you make these changes at your own risk:

All Settings > System > Power & Sleep > Additional power settings (under Related settings) > Change when the computer sleeps (left side) > Change advanced power settings

Change the "USB settings" / "USB selective suspend setting" to "Disabled"

Hi All!

Thank you Saint! The message in ProScan is "used by other incidence" and in windows I get "port in use bla bla". It is just getting old!!! I am not out to make a federal case out of this. I have turned off all of the advanced options on power settings. I did that the day I got the laptops, and to this day they are still off. That is why I have asked if another driver could be causing the problem, like Zadig. Both laptops, one a Dell and the other a Lenovo have the same problem. Thank you for your kind attention, have a good day. Over and out here!

You never answered my questions. When I get bug reports via email, I usually send out test files to see what's going on.

That is why I have asked if another driver could be causing the problem, like Zadig.
Zadig is not a driver. It is a driver installation utility that installs generic usb drivers. In the scanning world, it is most commonly used with sdr dongles. I could be wrong but I have never heard of anyone using Zadig with a Uniden scanner for a driver related issue. Doing a search for Zadig on radio reference brings up many threads that are all about sdr dongle drivers. The only threads where a Uniden scanner and Zadig are discussed are the threads where you brought up Zadig.

You asked in another thread,
That is why I keep looking at the driver or program conflict. If I knew how to remove Zadig driver, I would just to see if that is the problem.

If you have Zadig on your system, what driver did you replace using Zadig? If you replaced a driver with Zadig, just go in your device manager to the device that you replaced the driver on and delete the driver and refresh device manager and it will load the default driver. If you do not know how to remove or roll back a driver that you used Zadig to replace, then I suggest you not have that utility on your pc.

Hi to all:

I am not trying to get into a contest with anyone! I do not need anyone telling me what I should have or not have on my computer! Dave I take offence to your comment! That said, move on.
Now I put Zadig and ZoneAlarm on the the list because both computers have that in common. I have stated that I get the message in Proscan and also in Windows. It just states that the port is in use by another incidents. Windows says that the port in in use, is not available, or something to that effect. There is not a explanation in detail just the short message. To work around it I have put a switch in the USB cable so I can shut off the USB and turn it back on without having to unplug the cable. So if I shut off the USB, then turn it back on, the result may or may not allow Proscan to latch on to the port. Some of the time I have to add to the mix turn off the SDS100 and restart the scanner and turn back on the port. That works 90% of the time. Then there times that it works the way it was designed to work. I am frustrated and upset! All during this the BCD536HP has only dropped out once. That is since the addition of the SDS100. I don't know if that is cause and effect but it is what I see.
Bob I don't know if this is a ProScan bug or a Uniden bug or Windows. It is frustrating to say the least. OUT HERE!

I guess you're still not going to answer my questions. I noticed that last week or so too with most of my questions going unanswered. Also you didn't send me an email either so how can I send you a couple of test files to see what's going on?
