I don't think it really makes a difference, but I heard rumors, so I'll ask here, since everyone here tends to know more about the scanner.

Does using simple v detailed display slow the scanning down?

Does using color v black/white [either combo] slow it down?

Does either of those settings use any more/less battery than the others?

No to the first two. Not sure what screen the scanner is but generally on cell phones with led/oled screens, white uses more power than dark.

Short answer to all three: Nope.

The screen is a backlit LCD display, that cycles about 10-12 frames/second.

Scanner's scan rate is about 80 channels/second.

Doesn't matter if it's black & white or colour, simple or detailed.

The only drain is backlight timing.

Thanks for the information, I saw someone on a Facebook post comment and say that the detail display using color causes the scanner to take a little longer because it has to load all the details and colors, I thought it was an answer from someone who thinks they know more than they do trying to sound smart or similar.

Under the Display Options in Sentinel, set up the Squelch Light to Open Squelch and set up the Dimmer and Keypress Light to your preference. I use 40% and 30 Seconds and get about 7-8 hours on one charge. I have a Color Display too.

What this will do is light up when a transmission is received instead of it remaining on and reducing the battery life. If you need to see something, press the knob down and it will remain on to however long you set it to.

The difference between 100% full backlight and totally off are 750mA and 700mA for the total scanner battery current. A 40% backlight are 720mA.
If the scanner are able to run for 7 hours with the display off all the time it would be reduced to 6,5 hours when having the display permanently on at 100%.

The display updates its information at a rate of about 4 times each second. If you scan at a 80ch/s rate it could be a chance that a favorite list with less than 20ch will not even be displayed. So the amount of detail in the display will not matter to the scan rate or to its battery drain.

If you open squelch on an analog channel and listen to the noise at max volume it will take another 100mA. But voices will take much less and they are not a constant audio source and you are probably listening at a lower volume level. What takes power are the receiver chip, the CPU processor and the DSP.
