I wouldn't really call them "deaf", but the range on conventional and other modes, leaves quite a bit to be desired.
If I could create my perfect scanner, I would:
Combine the reception of the BCD436HP [I've had one]
The BCD436's dimmed display vs the black out SDS100, and the SDS100's weatherproofing [which isn't really too much to it], as well as the trunked/simulcast reception abilities.
I really feel if they made an SDS300/400 I feel these features combined would make the scanner way better - not saying it's a bad unit, but there's definitely way more that could be done to improve it.
Also would add the ability to monitor USB, SSB, C4FM, D-STAR, to name a few - I also believe that the DSTAR and C4FM should be further paid upgrade/unlocks as the DMR. NXDN, and ProVoice options was.
Also the ability to monitor TDMA P25 sites.
But I don't forsee
It's my main complaint about the SDS scanners, along with them being generally deaf.
