My two cents is that we should leave the hardware manufacturing to Uniden, with just enough software to make the scanner "go" and leave the complex software to others such as ProScan and Butel.

That could include anyone so we could make an "open source" scanner if Proscan/Butels offerings are not to our liking. Those OS456/545 boards for GRE scanners used only the basic receiver hardware in the scanner and moved the scanner functionality to 3:rd party software developers. That Probe software are still unbeaten today for conventional analog scanning.
