I own a SDS100 and last night when i turned it on the screen and the top of the antenna got real hot. has anyone had this issue and is it repairable?
Well the SDS100 tends to run warmer than pretty much any other scanner out there. Mine does for sure.
That said, was your scanner plugged in to the charger? When it’s on or off & connected to the charger, it’ll get noticably warm.
So does your scanner have any noticable damage or defects? Melting of the unit, pixels on the screen burnt out? If you have actual damage to the scanner, you can send it to Uniden assuming you still have the one-year warranty.

No need to send for repair, it is a well-documented, long time understood, and acknowledged by Uniden, since the introduction of the radio, that it runs very hot at the base of the antenna. It's just the way it is, don't waste your money sending it to Uniden as they will say it's within specifications but probably charge you anyway.

i even thought it might be from the lighting, we turned it off and not much of a difference.
you are not alone.
warm for a radio, but it might be right for SDR's.

If you’ve been running the SDS100 for almost a year, and have become accustomed to the warmer touch of the radio, and then just recently, have experienced a noticeable difference, the warmth increasing, return the radio to Uniden for repair. Explain in a note the difference in temperature you are dealing with. If it’s a noticeable difference it’s measurable. Uniden will “take its temperature” and depending of if it’s within specs or not either fix or replace the unit if it’s under warranty. I believe if it’s still covered under a warranty you need a return authorization from Uniden.
