When connected to an external speaker or earbuds, the SDS100 audio is quite good so it isn't the audio amplifiers fault that it is not so good on the internal speaker which sounds rather tinny. On the external speaker it actually sounds as good as my Alinco, Yaesu and Standard Horizon handhelds do with just their internal speakers. Those radios have speakers similar in size to the SDS100. Even the BCD325P2 is much better, excepting of course monitoring LSM.

Has anyone been successful finding a replacement internal speaker that sounds better for the SDS100?

he is looking for an internal one.
but that one does look good, the wife might like it !
maybe not
Mono plugs: Do not plug a mono jack into the stereo jack, as it can short out part of the output amplifier
and that sure looks like a mono plug.

If that has round speakers inside, he could mean take the speaker out of the enclosure. Enclosure is only 2.6 inch high so the speaker would be smaller.

I guess I thought he wanted an external speaker, bought this cause it was cheap.

Yes, internal speaker replacement. I can investigate this myself, but wondered if anyone had beat me to it.

I have never taken the SDS100 apart to measure the speaker dimensions and research replacements.

As said, the SDS100 audio is very good through earbuds or connected to an external speaker. That indicates the problem is the internal speaker.

It's not great, BCD436HP is better.

It's one thing I hope has been improved in the SDS150.

I've got that speaker, and it's good for the price. Definitely has a mono plug, it's made for CBs and mobiles. I use one with a Patrolman PRO-2026 for railroad scanning. Fairly balanced response with more low mids and bass than most internals.

I believe that the SDS100 speaker has a plastic cone to maintain water resistance. That would explain the poor low frequency response.
Maybe, but my Standard Horizon HX40 is IPX7 rated, and on marine and NOAA channels it has superior sound to the SDS100. And the HX40 is quite small. For a marine handheld, I highly recommend it. According to it's size and the size of the speaker grill area, it suggests the internal speaker is no larger than the SDS100 speaker. I am wondering if the HX40 speaker will fit inside the SDS100. I have some investigating to do.

What amazes me is the rich sound that comes out of the iPhone 15 speakers. And the IPhone 15 is water resistant.

Took the front cover off of the SDS100 long enough to measure the speaker, but the way that thing is glued in, I don't think I want to remove it. I would have to use a hobby knife or scalpel to cut through the white RTV like adhesive. Don't think so, especially not knowing for sure which particular brand would sound better.

The speaker is 8 ohm 1 watt. Round, 36mm wide, 5mm thick.

Some audio shaping in the SDS150 would be great too, as in some hand-helds.

In most of Unidens scanners they have a 24 ohm speaker, 0,8W in 436 and 0,5W in some others and seems to be 32mm in diameter.

The SDS100 uses a stereo amplifier and one channel are full frequency range but the other channel are frequency limited and are probably the signal that goes to the internal speaker to not overload it so easily if the signal instead where of a full bass frequency range.

But if it actually are a 1W speaker in SDS100 then the circuit could probably be modified to use the other full frequency range channel. I use both channels in parallel to power an external speaker.
