I think the best word to describe your situation is "intermittent". Works sometimes; other times not. Perhaps it was you, but I did mention to someone in another thread to give it a few "gentle" wacks when it's in its non-working state to see if things come back alive. Kinda like giving a newborn baby a wack in the butt to start its breathing/crying process.
Unrelated but amazing to the world of early radio and music, Frank Sinatra had to be delivered with forceps and was thought to be stillborn. Blue and not breathing, his grandmother picked up the newborn, ran him under cold water and slapped his back and Sinatra started breathing.
I'm not telling you to run your radio under cold water, but if you can tap around different areas of the radio while it is not working properly and while tuned to your local NOAA weather station, if it suddenly comes alive when you wiggle the antenna, jiggle the power switch, or otherwise gently slap it around a bit, you might locate the general area of the fault.
If you are the same guy who mentioned this in several other threads, and have not been able to isolate the problem, it's probably time for a trip back to Uniden. Make sure you tell them the issue is "intermittent" and that it was dropped. OK, it's embarrassing--- tell them your lil' brother knocked it off the shelf.
