I have never been a real fan of Uniden scanners with the exception of the HP2. That being said, the problem lies in the frequency response of the audio amps used in Uniden scanners and the bottom firing speakers. I wonder if you can run the audio output through a sound processor like those sold for Shortwave and Ham receivers. Alternatively connecting a capacitor across the audio output should theoretically roll off the bass freqs, making the audio more intelligible

How will that help with this issue?

“So now that I have retrogradely solved that issue, now lets talk about the abhorrent lack of sound quality that the SDS200 has, so bad in fact for the 3 yrs that I've had the SDS200 that I refused to use it & just listened to my other scanners. It sounds like they are talking into a hole in the ground on my RR feed.”
Just a couple of ideas to help the OP’s complaint about the audio on his feed

have tried a new Ethernet cable and a different port on my switch.
I'm am the OP of this thread & since I started this thread 4 months ago, at the recommendation of some on here, a few month ago I set an IP reserve on my router for my 200. Now my 200 is "always on" on my network and never disconnects. And let me tell you this is the only way that you can keep your 200 connected to your LAN. Because the SDS200 does DHCP the worst I've ever seen, so bad in fact that it should not even be an option on the scanner, then forcing you to give your 200 the only kind of LAN connection that it can stay connected to.

I have been saying for the 3 yrs since I bought my 200 that is has despicable sounding audio and for most of those three yrs I refused to use it & just used my Whistlers. Although the firmware update in December did much improve the 200's audio, I am still hoping that more needed improvement is possible. Because I considered it not fit for it's intended purpose with it's prior firmware. I had even tried using external speakers and audio over LAN and it still sounded horrible before.

Try a 225-250 microfarad non polarized Mylar capacitor in series with the positive audio out. Should block frequencies below about 150khz. Or, you could get an audio signal processor from MFJ.

You could try an audio graphic equalizer. Used a lot in pro sound applications. Your ultimate goal is to dampen bass freqs below 200hz. You want a frequency range between 200hz-8khz. Typo in above post 150khz should be 150hz. Been a long day and I had a senior moment

Can you set the scanner to a static address. That way the ip address never changes on your scanner and can set up what ports are needed in your router to pass.

How does it do DHCP poorly? I’ve never seen an issue.

It all has to do with the how ROUTER does IP ADDRESS RENEWALS most my default do them at 24 hours. It is during this time that the SDS200 and 536HP hang and have to be power cycled so STATIC or RESERVED ADDRESS is the only way to go.

I'm not certain that is the case; I've never had that happen with any SDS here. However, my DHCP service tends to "let things be" and not give new addresses to existing clients (using pfSense and Ubiquiti).

I do agree you'll want a never-changing address though.

Not all routers do this but some will stop traffic until the address is reassigned and this is what causes the problem. Most are the cheaper routers from big box stores. I use a high-end small office router that does not cause me any problems also I am running multiple address schemes 1 for computers 1 for streaming 1 for CCTV Video and 1 for scanners all vlans run by the same router.

I'm not sure what you mean by "stop traffic". I've never seen any firewall stop traffic based on how it received its IP.

This is as simple as I can make it.
Once the SDS200 gets its address when the dhcp time expires a cheap router will drop for just a few seconds THIS LOCKS UP THE PORT OF THE SDS200
I work with cheap stuff all the time working on CCTV ACCESS CONTROL and see this in my logs.

My DHCP issues with my 200 were so bad that it would lose an IP every few minutes. Which none of my PCs do on the router.
